I've just deleted my previous 4 stars rating to leave this new and updated 2 stars rating. Firstly, the refurbishment looks nice and pretty, but today there was only one person serving at the bar, and she was run off her feet, more staff would be better. Now, sadly, onto the absolutely horrible food. My last review for the hunter’s chicken et al, was 4 stars because the food was nice, hot, the chicken was juicy and had some taste to it. Today, I wasted £20 on two meals that I really wish I hadn't ordered. My hunter’s chicken was not that hot and just mildly warm, the chips were not great, and the chicken was as dry as sandpaper. That £20 I sadly wasted on this so called food could have gone to a charity that could have used the money for good, but I do give to charities regularly anyway. Actually, I have just decided to upgrade the rating to 2 stars (from 1 star) simply because my partner said that her meal was not too bad, but not great either, thus could have been better. I've had a really bad meal, I'm angry. My partner wouldn't let me make a complaint at the bar, even though I'm really not happy with the food that I received. To top it all off, it's Pancake Day today. I should have stayed at home and made a bunch of pancakes rather than spending £20 of my hard earned money on this second rate pub food. Last time I left a 4 star review for the same food only a couple of years ago, but not this time, because it was absolutely terrible. I was considering ordering some dessert, but because the food had literally angered me, I refused to order one as I had already wasted good hard earned money on this so called food. I'm not happy, I'm not happy at all. I really should have complained about my issues whilst I was there...

The new menu had a good choice of dishes including things you wouldn't expect like a doner kebab. Pub was really busy and we struggled to find a table, which in a way was nice as lots of pubs never reopened after lockdown. Food was lovely, although the other half would have preferred his steak to be served on a normal plate as he said it was overcooked by the time he got back from the bar with a pint due to the heat of the skillet! The fox enjoyed the bit we took home 🤣

Unfortunately, we had to wait longer for our food, and it wasn't at its usual hot temperature. Staff missed the opportunity for a sale when they failed to point out the 2 for offer. Not good on a day I'm in the mood for a few drinks. Not their finest hour

I attended The Towers Inn, 636, Walsall Road, on the 19/05/22.

I originally booked for four (4x) people and bumped into my parents (who had popped in for one (1x) drink as the weather was nice).

I asked the bar man if I'd be able to add another two (as I'd feel uncomfortable eating without both whilst there) the manager expressed it was fine and we was seated on table #33 (upstairs).

Six (6x) ordered meals that were; 1x Surf & Turf with Jacket Potato, 1x Chicken Platter with Chips, 3x Mixed Grills with Chips and 1x Mac Daddy with steak.

The steaks that were requested was; two (2x) rare, two (2x) medium rare and one (1x) well-done.

ALL steaks come well-done and couldn't be eaten due to the toughness and couldn't be chewed.. even the one (1x) that I asked to be well-done was burnt to a crisp.. and even the Jacket Potato was on the wrong meal..

When all the meals were put on our table the waitress asked if everything was ok..? I replied "no" and explained.. the waitress looked very confused and lost (not knowing what to say) I was hoping for a response.. but all I got was a look of confusion and was asked if we wanted any condiments..?

After eating most of the other things on the plate I asked for a doggie bag and took the remaining home for the dog.

Before leaving I spoke to the manager (Haley) and explained the meal.. again I was disappointed as she didn't know anything about what I had expressed to the waitress.. and all that she said was "I'll speak to the chef.."

Overall, I was very great full for management accommodating my parents at short notice to eat with us.. but very disappointed with the meal and the aftercare.

  • UPDATE *

I'm very great full after writing this experience and sending an email to the company (Sizzling Bar and Grill) I had a reply today (Wednesday 25th May 22). The company are going to look into the events that unfolded and my family and I have been given a £20 voucher to go back and experience (hopefully a better standard) a family meal.

I'm alittle disappointed I wasn't offered the full amount I paid..!

Again,...

Booked a group party for 18-24 people. Have been before and had a really nice meal so was looking forward to the meal with family and friends.

When we arrived the area was not even organised. They had to move people out of the area where we are meant to be. Then realised there were only seating for 16 people. The tables were all separate when we asked for them all to be together. In the end my husband and I had to move tables around so that another large table could fit in the tiny area allocated to us(a staff member moved it after we asked). The staff were not very friendly or helpful.

We then ordered which took nearly 2 hours to be brought out to us. Some of the portions were tiny and not what I would give to a child. There were items missing of the plate and I personally ordered a side salad which didn’t come and I had to pay again for as they said they thought I wanted it instead of chips. That would have been ok if they hadn’t brought me chips with my order. I therefore had to pay for side salad again which was £1.60. When it arrived it was in a little sauce bowl with lettuce 1/3 of a cucumber slice and three pieces of pepper. Not what I would call a salad.

Still trying to have a good time we ordered desert. Considering there were 10 orders of the same desert of the chocolate sundae they were all different and just thrown together. My husbands has sauce on half of his sundae and the rest was dripping down the side of the bowl mine had a small vanilla scoop then the rest of the class was filled with squirty cream, the top looked nice though.

Over all I traveled 95 miles to meet up with family for a special occasion and this...
