In the past I've had hit and miss experiences with the restaurant, but even with the misses I've still returned time and time again, the past few years have been nothing but pleasant and enjoyable, the food is always to the same great standard, the waiting staff always friendly and chatty (just the right level of chatty for my slightly introverted self) and the owner is a hard working and passionate lady! I have lived around the Sutton area all of my 30+ years and the carvery in the park has always been an idyllic location of my years, whether its being an early hungover Sunday binge breakfast in my late teens or a thirst quenching trip for unlimited drinks during the scorching summer holidays of my early teens. This traditional location to this day is still a go-to for an easy dinner mid week when washing up just feels like someone else's problem. So tonight, to walk in through the double doors and see the news of the closure is incredible saddening. My last meal of gammon in the Sutton park toby carvery was probably one of the best gammon joints I've had over the years, I wish all the staff (even the traitors 😉) the best of luck in the future and would like to thank the manager and all her efforts! You will be missed, and whatever comes after will be a mistake. #bringbackthebird

Let me start by saying the refurb they have done is spot on. The decor is great and it looks superb. A massive upgrade from the Toby Carvery. Having been here a few times now it is obvious they need more staff. I don't think I've received a coffee within 30 minutes of ordering it. Today it was 50 minutes and it arrived after the food, which took 40 minutes to arrive. It also came without the traditional complimentary biscuit. No point asking for one as it would have taken half an hour. 😬 I felt sorry for the guy taking orders behind the bar as he had to serve, pour the drinks and ALSO take the plates of food to the tables. I don't know how many pairs of hands the management think he has, but the truth is not enough for what was asked of him. I haven't eaten in the restaurant side, just the bar area, so don't know if they prioritise that side to the detriment of the bar. I may never find out, unless I want to take a whole afternoon off, in case my worst fears materialise and I'm left starving and hangry. Note to management: the building and decor deserve 5*...you won't get anywhere near without a massive increase in staff and reduction in waiting times. Lovely brunch though, despite the small portion of beans...the poached eggs were done perfectly. 👌🏽

First proper day of being open so I thought I’d go in for breakfast with my pooch. Brown’s have done a lovely job with the interior bringing it up to date from a tired looking Toby carvery. I was greeted by a friendly chap who sat us down by the toilets on the bottom level, I was happy here sat in the sun on a nice & level table for 2. I ordered a cappuccino & a traditional breakfast which came to £19.20 (inc a £1.75 compulsory 10% service charge which the staff do get to keep). The drink came first which was lovely & a perfect warm up to the frosty walk I’d just done. A very nice touch with a dog bowl of fresh water for pooch. The breakfast arrived around 20mins later but was fresh. The sausages were beautiful along with the 2 perfectly fried eggs. The mushroom was very tasty but a little too salty for me. I’d consider opting for a larger pot of beans & just to give the butter a little melting before serving. Overall though it was a very warm & pleasant first experience of Brown’s restaurant & we will be returning for sure. 🐾8.5/10

This is a review from when it was a toby carvery and not browns who have adopted the reviw....Right from the start it was just great... We arrived at 5pm having not had to negotiate as much traffic as thought, our booking was 6pm, without any fuss or drama the guy on the front desk invited us to have a drink in the bar and he would give us a shout. The barman was so friendly, I honestly thought we had gone to sleep and woke up in a different world. 25 mins later (35mins before our booking time) we where called to our table and a delightful lady named jo, she continued the same attentiveness as the other two chaps had shown, she just connected with our family of 3 adults and 2 children, nothing was too much trouble for her, she had this same connection with all the diners in her section... Amazing

Update,

visited 31.08.2023 with same family, served by a delightful lady named laona, sausage sandwich for 4yr old not a problem, even though it was not on menu.

Carver unconcerned about the charcoal, and I mean charcoal roast potatoes on his deck, did not respond to my request to change them, when wife asked him he supplied another tray of slightly less burnt roasters.no up selling by carver either. Carver didn't display any charm to his customers, very unlike the rest of the team..

Update 21/10/2023

Although at 5.30pm on a Saturday, the place was quite full, we were shown to our table and felt a genuine welcome from the young girl who served us, we were on the table directly opposite the gravy bar. I did feel that the meat serving portion had shrunk, 3 small bits rather than proper slices, I only had one meat by the way. Thr price was £10.99 per head, the price has risen and the portion size shrunk... No discounts for blue light or defence taken on Saturdays or Sundays, another blow to our stretched finances. Guinness served tasted not smooth, more like other beer had been put in it, when I was a barman, it was common to empty drip trays into guinness barrel... Not saying that this what was done, it tasted like it though.

So yes,, it was nice hot food but value for money, not so good in my humble opinion, still able to fill your face with veg and potatoes, also mac and cheese.

Perhaps the tiny portion was because...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A flawless experience – twice in two days!

I visited Browns Bar and Bistro at Sutton Coldfield Town Gate last week with my daughter for breakfast. From the moment we arrived at 10am, we were greeted with a warm smile and shown to a lovely table in the conservatory, overlooking the garden. The setting was beautiful and relaxing, and the service throughout was exceptional.

Our waitress, Monica, looked after us from the start and made the whole experience seamless. Not only did she serve us at our original table, but when we requested to move to the rear terrace, she personally ensured the transition was smooth — allocating herself to our new table so that the service continued without interruption. She even transferred our drinks for us, which was a lovely touch.

My daughter had the Eggs Royale and I opted for the full English breakfast — both dishes were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The terrace, with its partial umbrella shade, was the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the surroundings.

What really stood out was the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff, especially Monica. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu — able to answer questions about ingredients, portion sizes, and more. Her attentive, confident manner really elevated the whole experience.

The venue itself is immaculate — from the tables and cutlery to the toilets, everything was spotless and clearly well cared for.

I was so impressed that I returned the very next day with my future son-in-law to try the lunch menu. Once again, everything was perfect — delicious food, outstanding service, and a relaxed, high-quality atmosphere. To top it off, it was surprisingly good value for money.

Only one thing I could say Coukd be improved and that was the sausage on the breakfast was a little dry and I felt may have been pre cooked? If it wasn’t , I think it could be improved on. However , I still ate it and the flavour wasn’t bad.

Browns Bar and Bistro has absolutely earned five stars from me. A fantastic place I’ll be returning to often — and a special thank you to Monica for making both visits...

This isn't actually the worst restaurant we've been to, but it's very close. We booked well in advance after reading the reviews and promptly paid the £120 deposit for a table for 12. After all, the 2500+ reviews couldn't be wrong, couldn't they??? On arrival, i brought a round of drinks 2 pints cider 1 wine spritzer, 1 malibu with coke, 3 cokes, & 5 lemonade. £64.80, I'm guessing they make the drinks on the premises. We were promptly shown our table and found there were just 10 settings laid out. Of course, I mentioned this to the manager, who I might add had called earlier in the day to confirm our table for 12, with a very sullen attitude after a few minutes there were no other tables available. So we squashed ourselves onto a very limited 10 place setting. In retrospect, we should have left then, but getting all 12 together, we decided to make the best of the situation. At this point, I also would have liked an apology from the manager. Ignorance is as the ignorant do, I suppose. Looking at the menu, it looks very appetising. Looks are, as they say, definitely deceiving. My youngest granddaughter summed up the burgers as Tesco's own brand. The fries were frozen & and the fish were definitely from the reduced aisle at Iceland salad dressing with meal were none existent, and there was more fat on the ribeye steaks than flesh. Wasn't all so bad as my future son-in-law did enjoy his belly pork meal. I'd just like to say that 12 meals and 12 drinks cost £365 approximately, that's £30 per meal, 7 of which were from the children's menu. For a meal of this quality I suggest you pay the £5 parking fee in Sutton town and eat at the wetherspoons where a meal + drink costs and average of £15. In fact, I've changed my mind THIS SIMPLY IS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER EATEN. My advice is that Miller and Carter or wetherspoons would be...
