I've been coming in most weekends for the past year or more. The layout and style of the place is decent for what is a fairly compact coffee shop.
Generally speaking I've always found Nero coffee to be very good, and previously that was my experience here too. However in the last couple of months I've seen a lot more inconsistency - my sense is that they've had some new staff and that they've not been well trained.
My biggest gripe has been when they've messed up a "baby chino" for my toddler. This is simply frothed warm milk, so you'd think its hard to get wrong, but I've had to send these back several times due to the milk being scalding hot - something that smacks of carelessness. At other times its not been frothed at all. It seems like a small thing, but its indicative of the quality issues I've seen here across the board more recently, and was never an issue before.

Read moreThis one star review has nothing to do with the staff. The staff are wonderful but the clientele includes a group of extremely loud group of old guys who bellow their bigoted & racist views loud enough for everyone in the coffee shop to hear.
They sneer at any student of non-white patron of the cafe, they make it incredible uncomfortable of an environment to sit in considering that the clientele of nero is diverse in all areas: race, age and gender.
this group of middle aged unemployed lay-abouts who sit in nero and nurse one coffee between the 5 of them for 3 hours taking up all the seats have been a great deterrence for me going to nero. I have been a regular of this nero for 10 years since it was first built, throughout my time as a student at strodes and royal holloway and it does some of the best coffee you can get from a chain. All i can say is keep going to this cafe nero because no doubt these old bigots...
