So tonight (tues evening) i happened to be in the area again. This time i booked an 8pm table. Would i get a meal, a drink or something in between? Well Tuesday Nught seems to be Quiz night. So the pub has a few table reserved for quizzers by the looks of things. There seem to be increased number of staff then before. Signs of change or just for quiz night? After being told to sit at two different tables that had been reserved the young woman behind the bar said 'if you can find a table that not reserved grab it'. Great things were looking up. The only problem with late night booking is available of the menu. But i dont hold that against them. We ordered as usual starters then mains and of course pudding. We even joined in the quiz. The starters came quickly and looked and tasted better this time round. Things had changed from our previous visit. But wait i have spoken to quickly. Not long into our starters our mains had turned up. Which did i eat first. Continue the starters or start my mains. Either way something was going to get cold. Besides there was much room on our small table for all this food. Does this mean ournpudding is just one bite away? Well thankfully no. In fact we had to tell them we were ready for dessert, just the way it should be, or at least ask are you ready for your next course. It looks like things are 'a changing' as they say. It not quite there yet, but improvements are there. Our paths may cross again some day. Maybe i can restore that 4th star once again, but for now i have raised it back to 3 stars.
For anyone interested the quiz was a good laugh and worth a go.
Booked a table for 7:15, ordered our starters and drinks, staff were friendly, they asked how the food was, then asked if it was ok, could we give them a review on TripAdvisor. Which we said was ok.
Unfortunately it did not go well from there. We had ordered the horseshoe of onion rings and 3 bowls of chicken wings for starters. The onion rings were good, 2 of the wing bowls were ok, the third a little dry but sauce made up for it. The staff have walked pass several time, occasionally asking if were ok.
It was 8:10 when we were ready to order our main, it was time again for another staff visit. I said were was ready to order mains. This is when she told me the kitchen was closed. Closed its only 8:15, we had only orderd starters. She said sorry the kitchen is closed, but she would let us order a pudding but not a main.
A bit confused i said i would wait for my 8yrs daughter to return from the ladies before making my decision. At no piont in the multiple visit to the table did any staff member say "... do you want any thing else as the kitchen is closing..." or say "... just to let you know the kitchen closes at ....." it wasn't like they were even busy. Knowing we had only ordered starters the polite thing would have been to ask. Seem abit odd they ask for a review and then not serve us any meals.
Guessing they dont like working there much. I hope that this is a one off mistake and not evidence of poor customer service. It not like this was a weekend, this was a mid week day.

Good old pub grub, nothing fancy so no fancy prices either. Great place to eat if your visiting Thorpe park out with breaking the...
Read moreMy family and I popped into Twynersh for a quick meal this evening, upon our return from a day trip to Chessington World of adventures. Throughout most of my life, I've met quite poor quality and service from Hungry Horse pubs and have generally tended to avoid them. After a recent good experience and a different location, I decided to take my chances and try this pub, especially as it was en route home.
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised from the get go. Upon entering the establishment, we now how smart and modern the interior looked, being decorated in a tastefully fresh, yet classy touch. Once certain members of the family were happy with which table we were to dine at, we selected our choices for food and we placed our order at the bar for food and drinks.
We had ordered a Nacho starter for us all to share. This was promptly brought out to us by our waitress, "Roma". She looked after us for the duration of our visit; she displayed impeccable manners, courteous throughout to all members of my family and displayed good initiative, knowing that I was tied down looking after the kids, she offered to retrieve any additional sauces for us. Top customer service from her; a credit to the company, she should be proud of herself!
The Nachos looked like they were quite special, not necessarily home made but certainly different in a good way! Served alongside a trio of dips; Salsa (let itself down a bit, tasted a little like tomato ketchup!), sour cream (taste like every other sour cream) and Nacho cheese (really yummy! A little tingle from the chilli, I would strongly recommend it to anyone). We all enjoyed the nachos and its portion size made the perfect finger food stater for us all (2 adults and 2 young children).
My wife and I had also ordered the "QUADZILLA" burger. It consists of a double bacon cheeseburger, topped with 2 fried buttermilk chicken breasts and nacho cheese sauce, in a Brioche bun. Served with fries and some onion rings (most of which I lost to the children!). I'm quite a big chap and I can assure you that this meal will well and truly quench any hunger issues! I was full to the from afterwards, alas I had cleaned my plate up and left no chip behind! Super yummy and I would strongly recommend it for all of those out there whom may possess a hearty appetite, like oneself.
Point to note troops : We visited on a Friday, when they offer the classic BOGOF (Buy One, Get One Free) deals on certain burgers from the menu. To feed a family of four came to under £20!!! Absolute bargain!
It finished me but the children politely asked for a dessert. They selected their own from the menu; one was healthy (the fruit salad : Pear, Peach and Strawberry bits), the other not so much (Apple crumble with custard)! Again, the looked appetising and after sampling them both myself, I could tell that the quality of the desserts was not exactly great but it was still certainly tasty. The pear and peach chunks looked like they were straight out of a tin whilst the a strawberry tasted fresh.
Reminding myself that this isn't exactly Michelin star dining, the decor was pleasant, the atmosphere calm despite being busy, service came not only with a smile but was top notch and the food was well worth the money we paid; I would totally recommend this pub to anybody who wanted a cheap and cheerful meal.
Footnotes : Only draught available was lager - real ale was off.
The children's outdoor play area is currently fenced off and inaccessible - I don't know why.
There's ample parking around the...
Read moreOn arrival the outside space looked well attended to with a few families enjoying a bit of sunshine. We wanted to order some drinks from the bar, so we waited at the bar, unaware that we were supposed to only order at a certain till point. We asked someone who was apparently not serving, who told us that the server would be with us when she was free. Eventually we gave up and order via the app (which is apparently is what the company is aiming for).
We ordered chicken wings from the "sharing" section. These came in a basket with no plates and nowhere to put the empty bones. The only option was to put the bones that someone else had sucked next to the wings yet to be eaten 🤢🤮
We were told to collect knives, forks and sauces from the self service station. We were looking for bbq Sauce, but we were faced with 18 bottles with barely a drbble in each. There were no knives at the station. We asked 2 different members of staff, but knives did not arrive. Finally we asked what seemed to be the supervisor/manager and at some point the knives must have arrived at the station. Unfortunately we were unaware of their arrival and spent the majority of the main course with just forks. It was clear throughout that the only member of staff that was actually efficient was the supervisor, but she certainly wanted the whole pub to know it. On to the food. One dish was eaten by an 18 Yr old, so I can't really comment as he will literally eat anything that's put in front of him. My brothers chicken burger was below expectations and was left largely untouched. My seabass was OK and the veg was really good. The mash however, had been so overmicrowaved that the edges were Crispy. Overall, the experience was that the service has been stripped back to such a point that there is none. Given that hospitality is a service driven industry, we found the whole thing disappointing. Its not the fault of the staff, more of the company cutting costs. Having been several times in the past, I really think this visit...
