I would like to report the despicable treatment by the Sushi Nara Restaurant in Staines. It is extremely unfair that we a forced to give one start. We should have an option to give ZERO.
I placed an order for my family and me and added the following message. " If it is possible, could you do fried rice instead of noodle?"
The restaurant tried to contact me, but I missed the call; at the same minute, I called the restaurant to check if everything was okay with my order. At that moment, the restaurant manager explained to me that he had sent a message to me, but I never received this message.
I tried to find the message while I was talking with him, but I could not find it, and the manager told me that I would need to confirm the change in the message to proceed with my order. I told the manager that noodles would be fine and that would be no problem, but the manager started to get upset and impolite, saying that they are not a Chinese Restaurant to do Egg Fried Rice. I didn't even request Egg Fried Rice. I requested to swap the noodles for Rice. But apparently, it was very difficult to accommodate.
I told the manager that I was trying to contact Uber to let them know that I was okay with noodles, but I could not find a way to contact them at that point. Sadly I received a message from uber Eats cancelling my order from the restaurant. I questioned the manager, who at this point was already shouting at me, saying that it was my fault that I changed something on their menu, requesting something that they didn't have it. I asked if I could replace the order, it was 21:32, but the manager replied that it was too late because they closed at 21:30. That was Despicable.
The problem is, as a customer, I expect a certain level of respect and hearing a restaurant manager shouting and mentioning so many times that they are not a Chinese restaurant for the simple fact of kindly asking to swap noodles for Rice is absolutely DESPICABLE. Disgusting behaviour from this manager, extremely unprofessional and Rude!!!!
This kind of situation does not just damage the image of the restaurant but also of Uber Eats by having this kind of company under uber eats app.
Review to respond to the restaurant after the restaurant response to my comment:
This is absolutely NOT what happened. DESPICABLE TREATMENT TO THE CUSTOMER. At ANY moment, I disrespected the manager, not AT ALL. The message NEVER arrived to me, and I was on the phone with him, and he never, ever mentioned that the restaurant would close and I would not be able to proceed with my order. Instead, he SHOUTED at me for the simple reason that, as per him “You guys are not a Chinese restaurant “. I never intended to imply that you guys are a Chinese restaurant. It was just s simple request, and I clearly stated in my note to the restaurant, “If it is Possible “, this means if is possible, do it if it is not, disregard it! Now you come over here saying that you are sorry to hear that, but the truth is based on your message, especially in the end; you are NOT SORRY, instead still disrespectful to your customers; you should train better your staff to respect customers, and have basic principles of customer service!!!! As well, if you will feel so offended and verbally aggressive when customers add any special requests, then take down the section where customers can add notes!!!! DESPICABLE, really DESPICABLE, that you guys allow staff to insult and disrespect customers and try to blame the customers for it!!!! DISGUSTING AND DESPICABLE. I hope that anyone reading this comment takes into consideration that you guys are NOT stressed-Free, and disrespect...

I was received at the door by the friendly wait staff and promptly shown to a table. My waitress, J, was warm and courteous, making conversation while presenting the menu and taking my orders, which I felt was very pleasant as it made guests feel welcome.
My order comprised of Nara and Ebi Fry Fusion Rolls, and a side of Tonkatsu. The Nara Roll came with a spicy sauce that paired well with the sushi, and the salmon slices that topped it was fresh, although I wished they could be a little thicker. Avocado was also added as a classic pairing with salmon, no going wrong with that.
The Ebi Fry roll was as you'd expect: crispy prawn tempura encased in sushi rice and seaweed. This was complemented with mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce which might seem a bit unusual for sushi, but considering this was a fusion roll, it was a winning combination. I wouldn't add wasabi to it or dip it in soy sauce as you would with traditional sushi though.
As for the Tonkatsu, I was surprised at the size of the portion when it was served to me; it was larger than I had expected, which made for great value! But think crispy skin + tender and juicy pork fried to perfection and dressed with Tonkatsu sauce. Yum! (A small gripe I had was that the pork slices weren't thick enough, but this wasn't a deal breaker.)
Service was excellent, as I observed waiting staff engage diners in friendly conversation whenever they're at the table. Many patrons seem to be regulars who know the staff well, and both parties chat like personal friends. My waitress, J, picked up on the fact that I was from Singapore as she had been there too, and we had some really enjoyable banter throughout my time at the restaurant.
Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back to sample some of their other fare. Perhaps the Korean dishes, as I was told that those were prepared by Koreans in the kitchen. This was a real gem of a find: Great food, excellent service, and all at a...
Read moreJan 2025 - I feel compelled to write as I’m sat here in the restaurant. It’s a bit ridiculous to charge 10% service charge when there’s hardly any service. We sat for a while and thought they were going to bring us a menu. I have been here when they started the QR code self-ordering. The few times before they offered us a menu. I prefer a menu because I’m dining with family.
Anyhow, this time we were pointed to our seats and that’s it. Minutes passed. Nothing. Until my husband then said, I guess we have to QR it.
No problem there. Service isn’t friendly like before. It’s efficient but not friendly. And the 10% charge is ludicrous. Because we had to do our own order. But we paid it because we just do. Maybe it’s stupid but the serving service was ok. However I think if they make us do our own order it should only be 5%. I did think of removing it tbh.
Anyhow, food presentation not as good as before. It was not visually appetizing anymore. And service with a smile it was not.
Will I come again… hmm… need to speak to the owner first. Will I Uber? Always. Quite often actually. 😂
Jan 2024-We used to dine in at least once a month before covid since they opened in Staines. Since covid, it’s mostly via Uber Eats. Usually a 5-star. However for the last 2 orders including today’s, it a a bit disappointing. The Chirashi Don’s sashimi is very very thin. The Seafood Udon was disappointing in that they used frozen mixed seafood and added a few big prawns. I generally hate frozen mixed seafood. So that made it disappointing for me. The rest are very good: Handroll set Nara Set Sashimi Salad And no wasabi with Nara. Lack of wasabi also meant we didn’t fully enjoy it fully like we usually did. Still, I’m not giving up...
