Just when you think you’ve seen it all … So we wanted a takeaway curry and, checking various local places and their reviews, we liked the look of the Aroma Lounge, so we placed a fairly large order (for 3 adults), which totalled circa £48. We went for “Collection” as we live outside their delivery radius – we’re on the Isle of Sheppey. So we collected the food, which smelled gorgeous, got home, and found that MOST of the food was indeed absolutely first rate … a gorgeous Chicken Tikka Balti, Sag Paneer, and a superlative Tarka Dal … dals are my particular thing and this was one of the very best I’ve ever tasted. Keema Nana was great too, as was the Peshwari Nan and mushroom rice. 10/10!
Unfortunately, there was a problem with 2 of the 3 main courses – the Chicken Tikka Balti was outstanding but the 2 Lamb Tikka dishes: a Lamb Tikka Passanda and a Lamb Tikka Jalfrezi, both had lovely flavours but the Lamb Tikka meat was horrible – very tough, bordering on inedible, so we finished the meal by sharing out the rest among us and leaving the 2 Lamb Tikka dishes to one side.
I phoned to (politely, I’m always very polite, as an initial point at least) complain and request my money back on those 2 dishes (each £10.50) and was told the “manager will call you back very soon” … this is normally stalling tactics and they then block you, but as I knew I could pursue the matter via my credit card company I said sure, no problem, I’ll wait for the call …
… and a 10 mins later the manager/owner DID call me back! He was wonderful: didn’t try to pretend there wasn’t a problem (“we’ve had a similar comment from another customer this evening so yes, something hasn’t gone to our usual high standards”), and suggested that, next time, we have the “plain” lamb as that would be cooked with the sauce, and would be super tender. I said sure and then he actually surprised me (not something that happens much these days) by saying he would speak to his delivery driver and see if the chap would go the extra mile (extra 2 miles, actually) to deliver to us not only our refund for the 2 main courses, in cash, but also the 2 replacement dishes AS WELL “so you can taste for yourself the standard we normally work to” … and his delivery driver said sure, no problem, so an hour or so later the delivery driver, a lovely smiling chap, gave me the £20 pounds back for the dishes AND the two replacement dishes!
We put the replacement dishes away and the next day shared them out between us with the left over keema nan, Peshwari nan, and mushroom rice … and they were every bit as delicious as we’d been told they would be!
So thank you to the Aroma Lounge for a superb meal (2 superb meals, actually), and to the manager for taking such good care of us, and last but not least their delivery driver, for being prepared to go the extra 2 miles to bring us a refund and replacement dishes. Needless to say this will not be the last time we order from the Aroma Lounge, and I’d urge you to give...
Read moreThe customer service and experience here at Aroma Lounge Sittingbourne is truly special.
The atmosphere decorations and lighting of the restaurant set it apart from almost all restaurants in this region of Kent. It's like going overseas to sylett itself with how nice and warm and accommodating the restaurant is every time I have visited. Hussain and the gent that always looks after me who I can't thank enough for the consistency and friendliness of my visits here it's a great place for families, groups, working dinners and single travelers like myself to dine and feel at home.
Chefs and kitchen staff should be celebrated here as well as food is fantastic and always served with the highest quality of presentation and service. Every dish so far is delicious and perfectly portioned you won't not come back as the service here is very much always customer focused.
Been a while leaving this review so forgive the delay but wanted to express how much of a great place Aroma Lounge is and how much it's growing in presence and experience for all guests and how good the staff are here really appreciate you and with the British Raj right next door these are Sittingbournes finest tandoors and other businesses could learn a lot about how these restaurants take care of customers and are actually...
Read moreAs a fellow Indian, I was excited to see the menu compared to other Indian restaurants in the surrounding area. The look of the menu made it seem authentic compared to other ones. However, this is where my excitement ended.
I had picked up my order and as soon as a I opened the bag, straight away the whiff you would get from a typical Indian was non-existent of Indian spices.
I had ordered the vegetarian set menu and the vegetable korma had lumps of potato and other vegetables. The vegetable curry had no flavour. It was the blandest food I have ever had in my life. Well, actually the only good thing I can say as you have to be fair is that the rice was okay. The garlic naan was mediocre. The onion bhaji had fennel seeds in! As an Indian, this is blasphemy!!!
Overall, never in my life have I been as disappointed as I am with this takeaway!
I highly recommend you stay well away from here. A waste of my husbands hard...
