We visited here on recommendation from an elderly lady on the tram from Blackpool. She said ‘…they do the best fish and chips, It’s not a posh place, but it’s nice!!’ So, off we headed. The menu was vast and I was pleased to see they offered gluten free, meaning I could also eat here. The place was really busy/loud and it looked like we had stepped back into the 1980’s with the layout/decor. Not being put off and eager from the recommendation, we ordered. We stood in a slow queue, got our drinks then I ordered my gluten free chips and peas first, only to be advised they couldn’t do gluten free as all of the fryers had been used because they were so busy 🤯 After a chat with the fryer, I mentioned I was not coeliac but wheat intolerant - he was a little off and said” …so what’s the difference?”, which I was a little taken aback by (if I was coeliac I would of walked out at this point). In the end, it turned out they could not guarantee no splashes of batter had gone into the gluten free fryer, which I was ok with and continued my order with the rather stern lady. We got a children’s fish fingers chips and beans, 2 sausage and chips one with curry and chips and peas. One son didn’t like the chips (which isn’t unusual for him), the other didn’t like his sausage (which is very unusual), hubby thought his was ‘OK but nothing special’ (then later that day kept burping up greasy sausage and then felt sick) and my chips and peas were tasteless even when covered in salt and vinegar (actually the bright green pot of peas were ok). Also (coffee lovers), please note that the coffee is Nescafé instant and not ‘proper’ coffee. The toilets (men & ladies) need a bit of TLC. I didn’t have a wheat intolerance reaction, which was one good thing!! I don’t think we would return in a hurry. We went in with an open mind but left feeling a bit ‘meh’ (and me a little disgruntled) from our experience. Try it, and see what you think. Some people seemed like they loved it an had been going for years.

Can't really recommend this place save out desperation. Think this was a time where I took one for the team. For me it being dog friendly was a put off. Dogs and dog people I'm sure you're all lovely. But I don't expect to have to all but hop skip and jump over them to get into the place. They only take cash. Fair enough. I just didnt realise anything other than market stalls, car boot sales and cowboy builders insisted on cash these days... Their prices were, shall we say, a little high for anything that they hadn't deep fried themselves. They could buy their stock from Tesco and still make a significant margin on it. If you ask for tea you are give a teapot and pointed to a pile of cups and told to get your own. The coffee, if you wanted one, is a row of mugs with a spoon of instant already waiting in the bottom. It really is a trip back to the 1970s in levels of service and attitude to customer expectation. It was like a motorway service station from a school trip half remembered. But in fairness, the windows were clean and for many a seaside eatery that's one job too many so at least they got that right. Oh and they have take away ice cream window for those summer months/weeks/days...

Nice place for a quick sit down chippy lunch (they also have a takeaway counter and ice cream station) on our travels. Reminds me of cafés when I was young, no frills but damn good food. Plenty of seating both inside and out, tables clean and well spaced out. Staff are friendly and polite even though they were busy on the day we visited. The food was delicious, we chose the prawn sandwich, burger, portion of chips and the children had sausage with chips and the small fish with chips both of which came with a drink and a side (as seen in photo, this is more than adequate for a child!). Childrens portions are surprisingly big and certainly went down a treat. The adult portions are also large and very reasonably priced and perfectly cooked. Lovely view of the coast, clean and tidy. Cannot fault this place at all and will certainly pop back in next time we are in the area.

We went in here today on the spur of the moment, wish we hadn't, I've been in this cafe on and off for years but I won't be going in again! It's really gone downhill, I queued up and the woman on the till was really rude, I asked for my order, went to pay and she said aren't you paying with cash? I said no I haven't got cash on me, it was £17.20 for a regular fish with peas and a regular fish and chips plus a can of coke, the tray which she gave me was dirty but I didn't say anything. I went to sit with my boyfriend who had hot a vacant table which a pleasant blond girl had just wiped down, we waited a while but that was ok because it has to be cooked, the music was way too loud, the fryer behind the counter was messing about with the other young staff behind the counter, the atmosphere was really busy with lots of elderly people, the other thing that I don't think is right is to allow dogs where food is, yes I like animals but outside only. When our food finally arrived the batter on the fish was lovely and golden but it was dripping in grease, they don't cook them and let them drain long enough, my boyfriend wanted peas and I've never seen peas the colour what they were, dark green the colour of an emerald! So all in all I'll never...
