This place is really REALLY amazing. A true gem ✨! We dined there earlier in the year and last year at the Leeds location whilst looking for places to cater our wedding. At the time we were living in Manchester but this was better than what we've had there (which is still good). We were looking for an authentic Syrian restaurant as my family and I are from Syria and Lebanon so it's rare to find an authentic taste anywhere for us when we go to a restaurant. But this one straight away brought me to the homemade food that I grew up with. Honestly absolutely fantastic and anything you want to try is authentic and delicious! We decided to have them cater our wedding and it was the perfect choice. My family was absolutely IMPRESSED, they kept saying how it was really delicious and authentic. All of our friends who never tried Syrian food before were amazed and kept on talking about how incredible the food was. It is still the first thing that people mention about our wedding months later. Many have said they want to make the trip to the restaurant itself. We had more food than we needed and people were delighted to take it home with them. We were so happy about everything on the wedding day. Qusay looked after us and was super helpful, really kind and made it so easy for us! We cannot recommend his restaurant/catering enough. Also to mention that my husband and I are vegan and Qusay was able to make a full vegan buffet as we requested which included a few adapted dishes too. Gluten-free options as well. (We are waiting for the pictures of the wedding from the photographer and will add more when we receive them) All in all, we couldn’t have asked for a better catering experience for our wedding and we were honoured to have them part of our day. We cannot wait to go back to the restaurant and bring our friends there. Thank you so much 🙏 Qusay and the staff for such a special day. شُكْراً كْتير

First time coming and I must say, food didn’t disappoint. Great quality food. Really enjoyed. They gave complimentary soup (lentil soup) which was a nice warming start. Got the halloumi fatayer which was delicious. Ordered the lemon and mint drink which was a highly recommended option on the menu - was really refreshing. Mains we got the sujuk shawarma (just overall amazing quality meat) and the grill side option which was choosing 2 options from the grill along with a side (either rice, chips or arabic bread). We got the lamb chops and shish taouk (chicken cubes) with a side of bread. The lamb chops were so good and a large portion for sure (double the size of the usual asian style restaurant style lamb chops). Even the fat on the lamb chop was nice and I usually hate that part! The kunafa was one of the best I’ve had but the baklava was just mediocre, nothing special. Arabic tea pot to finish it all off. Would’ve been 5 stars but the customer service was awful!!! They’re all kids and chatting away in the back, nowhere to be seen. Do they expect me to shout across a busy restaurant asking for service????! They really need to be attentive to customers whilst having their food. I was waiting on 3 occasions - staring down the waitress laughing away with her co-workers, just to get her attention. Really peed me off to be honest - had to end up walking to the front twice. Great place to eat with family but they really need to TRAIN THEIR WAITERS/WAITRESSES. Will be coming again in the future. Paid £62 for all you see.

*May 2024 Update* Looking through my camera roll at photos I've taken each time I've eaten here is quite sad. Prices have gone up since each subsequent review and the portions are smallest they've ever been. On this particularly unremarkable Sunday, the complimentary soup had run out, as had the Hot Potato dish. Considering how common these ingredients are, I'm baffled as to why they had run out. Secondly, the portion sizes on my shish taouk main was woefully lacklustre. Look at my previous pictures and imagine half of that rice portion. The chicken lacked a delicious golden colour and had not been cooked to a chargrilled state. Flavour was okay but all in all a far cry from experiences past. Gone are the adornments like some vegetables, pickled beetroot slices or a grilled onion piece. Bab Tooma has regressed massively in quality and quantity and it's quite sad because I used to look forward to visits here. I don't think I'll be eating it recommending this place any time soon. Oh and I think the worst thing, the cash machine was 'not working today's and I was directed to the convenient one outside the shop with a £1.75 transaction fee. Nah. *May 2018 Update* Visited again and tried the chicken kebab skewer and the mince lamb skewer along with the spicy red humus. As a result of this visit, updated my review to 5*. The food was incredible. Very filling and tasty from start to finish. Where there was missing heat, a spicy house sauce was provided to give the food the kick it needed. In addition, service was pleasant with constant check-ups even during a busy period and all service was delivered with a smile and politely. A must visit if looking for something a bit different than your standard curry. __ Quaint little Syrian restaurant located 5-10 minutes walk from town centre. When I ate I enjoyed the humus and lamb skewers served with rice. I think it definitely captured the Syrian authenticity and the portions did eventually leave me full but I feel like I was missing out on the good stuff and may have to visit another time to try more of the menu. The lemon-ice sorbet style drink was amazing, however. Fantastically sweet garnished with fresh mint. Order a jug for the table upon any visit. You won't regret it.

This was my first time visiting and safe to say it was very disappointing. After taking our orders we were told someone would be coming with lentil soup that was complimentary. Please bare in mind before reading on, it was not busy at all when we came to eat!! After 40 minutes of waiting for anything to arrive on the table we asked the waitress if they could at least bring out the soup in which she told us there wasn't none left. That would have be fine if we weren't waiting 40 minutes after they said they would have brought it out. She didn't offer anything else in it's place which again would have been good after the wait. After 50 minutes of waiting the mains and the drinks came out. All the staff was just stood about doing nothing because there wasn't much customers. Food looked and tasted very plain. I know it's not spiced food like a curry but you couldn't taste any salt or even the charred taste from the coals. Not like other people's pictures which was what we expected. There was no pickle that apparently came with the food, the kobeda was half the size of what I'd seen others rice was some of the worst I've tasted. It was just boiled rice mixed with broken vermicelli, it tastes very bad, there was no proper salad, just onions and mint and the lamb was tough. For £17 (!) a plate it was a ridiculous huge waste of money and a let down. Mocktail was so sweet and didn't taste of anything just syrup. Was looking forward to trying kunafa at the start but gladly decided against it in the end and went elsewhere. We ordered bread which was never bought to us and was added onto the bill that we had to get taken off ourselves. I won't be visiting again as this was such a bad experience it has put me off ever giving it a 2nd chance.

Went here for a dinner for 2 around 9pm on a Monday. Not busy at all and only 2-3 other groups. We were served fairly quickly and the food was great. Would definitely recommend the shwarma platter, the cheesy shwarma was nice. The lamb chops were nice too. Would recommend the salad for starters. Unfortunately, would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for the female waitress serving us. Really poor customer service. She was more distracted by everything around her and seemed to be so overworked even though she had 1-2 tables to serve. She actively avoided coming to our table even when called at times which was quite funny, it's definitely a first. The poor chaps behind the counter didn't seem too impressed with her antics either and agreed with us too. They were great and are the reason I'm giving it a 3. She kept us waiting around after too and the guys working behind the counter eventually decided to come and help us. It doesn't take much to get it right, the guy didn't even know english that well but still managed to do a better job.

This restaurant is literally on my doorstep and I couldn't be happier with having the convenience of being able to just walk over from my house and having access to such beautiful food. We bought a mixed grill for 2 for £25 which is an absolute bargain, served with chips or fries. And my other mate bought a lentil and rice dish which tasted surprisingly scrumptious. We actually ate here to open our fast and the restaurant were catering to our needs perfectly as they allowed us to open our fast with dates, had prayer facilities and then gave us some soup while we waited for our food. To top it all off, they even threw in some mint tea and baklava on the house at the end of our meal as a token of their appreciation for our loyalty and also being able to understand how hard it has been fasting! As I say, food was top notch. Much easier to get a table then classic persian and the foods just as good in my opinion with good staffing. Thanks 'neighbour'.
