So, we needed a late night curry. Too many pizzas and burgers were getting boring. But there's not too many options at 1:30 am. I had heard good stuff about cafe rajas and thought we'd give em a try.
I rang them to enquire about chapatis and salad/sauce and was told I would have to order chapatis separately but the salad and sauce comes with the Curry. Fair enough.
We ordered a boneless chicken karahi, hot and aapna style, with extra green chillies. I rang them up again and asked the guy on the phone to make sure it was Asian style and to put extra green chillies in the chicken karahi but hold back on the chilli powder (not good for the stomach of those with IBS). The employee on the other end (the manager if I remember correctly) obliged and told me he would ensure that my requests were met.
The time on uber gave us about 45 mins but after 90 minutes we still hadn't recieved the order. I rang up and the manager apologised and told me they were very busy. That's understandable, it's hard working in a kitchen and many people don't appreciate how hard it is when it gets busy.
We waited another 10-15 mins and the food eventually came, albeit without salad and sauce which my family were very annoyed about. Late delivery is okay, but missing items too? That was just a no no.
I rang up AGAIN and the poor manager apologised and ensured that he would get us some salad and sauce ASAP. The drivers were helping him pack the orders due to it being so busy, and due to their inexperience, made a few mistakes.
Right, let's get to the pros and cons. The customer service was good. The manager spoke with respect and tolerance and got things done for me and that's always an important thing and he needs to be complimented for that.
The chicken karahi itself was average. It wasn't bad and it wasn't spectacular either. The curry wasn't hot at all, even my family member who doesn't like hot food, could handle the curry with the ease. The chapatis were decent. But the mint chutney, wow! Proper chutney that. Everyone loved it. It was probably the best part about the meal lol.
The experience of Cafe Rajas wasn't horrible and wasn't great either. I probably won't order from there again unless it's a big order of dhaniya chutney. A takeaway/restaurant curry is different to a homemade Asian curry and it's a treat to go out and enjoy British/asian food. However, this place didn't do anything special for any of us. I might pop in one day to give it a try once this pandemic is ended and life returns to normal.
Update.. After covid, I've tried it a few more times. And it's better. Good curries. Good starters. Good burgers. And nearly always...

IF I COULD HAVE GIVE IT 0 STAR RATING I WOULD HAVE NEVER GOING HERE EVER AGAIN……
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction following my recent experience at your establishment. I was extremely disappointed by the poor quality of both the meal and the customer service I received on my last visit.
To begin with, the food served was well below the standard I have come to expect. It lacked freshness, was poorly presented, and, quite frankly, tasted as though it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. There was massive amount of chillies which was asked to to be Mild but the lady called (Hardeep) said we asked for medium. When I challenged her saying that I asked for mild she brought this other Indian man up with a beard and he started to argue with me. This is not only unacceptable for any paying customer but also damaging to the reputation your café has built. Was over chargeD.
Equally troubling was the dismissive and unprofessional attitude of your staff. When I politely raised my concerns, I was met with defensiveness rather than understanding. Instead of acknowledging the issues, the staff flatly denied any fault and offered no resolution or apology. This lack of accountability is not only frustrating but also disrespectful to customers who choose to spend their time and money at your establishment. I came with my family it ruined the whole atmosphere of our family meal.
I had expected better from Raja’s Café, and I hope you take this feedback seriously. I am not looking for excuses — I am looking for a genuine effort to improve your service and ensure that future customers do not leave feeling as disappointed as I did. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I look forward to your response and a gesture of goodwill to restore my confidence in your business....
