I hadn't visited Shimla at Shipley since December 2018 and I visited the restaurant again last night on 18/02/21...Me and my Mrs had dined several times between 2012 and 2018 and it always served excellent food all these times!!!
Service was good last night...but that was the only aspect that was good...the starters for me and my Mrs were Fish Pakora and vegetable pakora both below average , salty and not the freshest...
The mains were Chicken Dhansak & Chicken Dupiaza...my 'Dhansak' meal was not Dhansak at all...!and I know it so well, its my favourite Indian meal...it honestly tasted like they just added a bit of a basic curry sauce (on the last minute) in the hob and sizzled it with some chicken cubes of pretty average cooked quality...it honestly felt these £1 meals you get from asda or morrisons which are of the most basic quality curry meals, that basic...certainly not £13 each!!
The Chicken 'Dupiaza' felt the same...the onions were tasteless and the chicken was shimmered on a very basic curry sauce, totally disappointed..
I really can't believe how below average everything was...
I don't know what is happening in the kitchen...but there were around 10 waiters last night most of them between 16 to 30 doing pretty little,it was not busy at all...
Anyway, I might try them again in March or April...but honestly, they need to improve massively if they were to reach again the pre-covid...

Read moreEnjoyed a great evening in the company of good friends last night at The Shimla Spice, Shipley. The only black mark of the evening being the decidedly average food!
This time last year I remember getting a good starter but poor main. Well this time they managed to get it the other way round! My starter of Mushroom Pakoras consisted of 5 very small pieces of overly dry, tasteless blobs which took me all of 60 seconds to eat!! My main of Chicken Multani was better but I couldn't help being distracted by my Sons Chicken Dopiaza, which easily takes the title of the worst curry I have ever tasted. This is a standard curry dish, served everywhere and if a curryhouse can't turn out a half decent Dopiaza then they might as well give up! It's like an Italian Restaurant not being able to cook pasta!
The hour wait between finishing our starters and getting our mains didn't help either and although we were one of the last diners to leave it was because of the great conversation rather than anything to do with the food. Last night was giving The Shimla Spice a second chance - it won't be...
