Avoid - family run business who do not welcome families with infants!
I would not recommend anyone with families to visit this so called āsuper family run businessā who indirectly discriminate by disallowing sleeping infants laying in a pram to enter their premises. I visited here last Thursday intending to have lunch with my daughter and one year old grandson, who was sleeping at the time and was told by the manager that prams were not allowed past the terrace gate. There is a visible sign which basically tells customers that pushchairs are not allowed past this point. When I questioned the female and pointed out that this was clearly discrimination. I asked if this applied to wheelchair users. She sharply answered by saying it was health and safety and wheelchair users are different and would be accommodated. The person was unprofessional and rude. You would expect a family run business to be inclusive and welcome other families, after all we are in 2024 ! Everyone should be treated equally regardless of their age, and to discriminate against a child and its mother is wrong just because they depend on the use of their pram in which has 4 wheels , the same as a wheelchair or a elderly personās frame. I commented that I would be interested in reading their health and safety company policy. (In my profession I regularly write and approve education health and safety risk assessments) She laughed, saying she was the manager and it was her decision! We made the correct decision and walked over the road and had another beautiful lunch at Bettyās, an establishment who always go above and beyond to ensure all their customers feel welcome and have always accommodated families with prams and the food, atmosphere and service is far more superior to āThirty Nineā After returning home and reading the dissatisfied comments made by other frustrated customers I would recommend other restaurants local in Ilkley to generously...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited here on Sunday 16th June last year and while the cakes were really tasty the service was abysmal. The woman in front of house (potentially the owner/ manager) speaks in a tone that suggests she hates customers. We had been waiting 30 minutes for our drinks so I asked politely if the drinks were on their way soon (for context it was summer and I was 7 months pregnant so was quite thirsty). She replied saying they were "incredibly busy and I would have to wait" in a rude tone. I thought maybe I had caught her on a bad day so decided to go back yesterday with my baby. First red flag was signs outside saying that buggies/ pram were not welcome (even on the outside seats and even collapsed). I understand not allowing them inside for space reasons but not outside seems cruel. It cannot be due to dirt on the bottom because apparently all forms of dog are welcome!! We had our baby in a carrier so thought we'd give it a try regardless. It was hailing outside and very cold so we were keen to go in, we saw a table free and went inside to ask if there was space for us. The woman, again in a rude tone, told us to wait outside while she made the table ready. She clearly did not want our custom so we walked straight out. On the plus side a cafe across the road welcomed us with open arms, were very accommodating and put us by a fire to dry. I will never attempt to go to this restaurant again, this woman either hates children/ other women or just general custom and I don't want to give my money to anyone who treats people with such contempt. I am saddened to give a negative review as I generally only go on Google to give positive reviews, however with this place, 1 star is...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePoor service, unprofessional, reading how the business respond to poor reviews is vile and frankly embarrassing. Not what you would expect in Ilkley. Itās frustrating (and so cringe) when businesses respond poorly to reviews, especially when customers share genuine concerns. A response like that can make the situation worse, and itās disappointing when staff donāt offer the courtesy or respect expected. We were met at the door by an incredibly rude and obnoxious waitress, she didnāt greet us, she instantly opened the door and told us we could not come in with a pushchair. As most are aware, parents spend a substantial amount of time and money in coffee shops, particularly those on maternity leave (like myself) and it would have been much more professional if the business had responded with empathy and a willingness to make improvements. Ideally, a more thoughtful response would show acknowledgment of the issue, a sincere apology, and a promise to reconsider policies to be more inclusive. That way, both the reviewer and other potential customers feel heard and valued. I have in fact eaten here before, the food was very good, but obviously I am no longer welcome with a baby. I wonder if they would discriminate against those in wheelchairs, for example? Having read a few reviews, it looks like weāre all talking about the same waitress, shame on you as a business to continue to employ such an unprofessional person. Iād be embarrassed and mortified...
