Valentino — Restaurant in Bradford

We recently visited Valentino and had a rather uneven dining experience. When we sat down, we immediately noticed a spiderweb between two wine glasses with napkins, and a spider weaving its way across. After removing the glasses and napkins, another spider appeared from the second napkin. I asked the waitress to replace the glasses and napkins, and while she seemed quite embarrassed, she responded quickly.

When it came to drinks, I ordered a Diet Coke as listed on the menu. Unfortunately, what I received was a flat, off-brand cola. I asked for a fresh glass and specifically requested the original Diet Coke, but was again given the same flat, cheap substitute. It was clear that this was the only cola option they had available.

The starters were a bright spot in the meal. I enjoyed the antipasto, which was quite good. However, the main courses were disappointing. I ordered a chicken dish with spinach and Italian cheese, but there was no cheese to be found. The dish consisted of a poached chicken breast with a crema sauce mixed with finely chopped spinach, lacking any seasoning and overall quite bland. The roasted vegetables on the side were inconsistent—some were fine, but others, like the potatoes, seemed old and had a grey, unappetizing appearance and taste.

On the positive side, the service was decent, and our young waitress was very nice and apologetic, though it was clear she couldn’t do much to improve our experience.

A very popular and busy venue. Valentinos of course do all the usual reasonably priced Italian pasta and pizza dishes par excellence. They also have an excellent menu of steak dishes and a fish menu on the blackboard as this depends on the catch of the day. On our recent visit I chose their ensalata tricolore starter - an economically priced and health conscious choice. This was followed by their cod with prawns dish - in fact a healthy eating option which came with a side dish of vegetables. All the food was produced to a very high standard and served courteously with minimal waiting time. I haven't visited Valentinos for a long time, maybe 5 or 6 years. Tonight, Friday the 11th of October (2019) my wife and I along with our friends daughter visited Valentinos. What a great experience. As we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted and shown to our table which was upstairs and completely empty, no diners. Soon the place began to fill up. The waiter was very friendly and attentive and the waitress, as it turned out, was his daughter and she too was very friendly. The food was excellent.
