Excellent lunch/dinner for 11 of us only booked a few days prior to visit.
On the booking phone call there was a slight pause while they confirmed they could accommodate us, rather than just squeezing a large group in.
Staff just as polite as I'd wish, not intrusive like some locations.
Drinks were recieved promptly, wit no spillage of pints etc.
Meals were swiftly prepared and brought out together, a much as they could be with one excellent lady server.
This was inspire of meals being as varied as mixed grill, fish n chips and bangers & mash etc.
Plates were large and although they comfortably held the meals, the servings were do generous that, despite everyone praising the food, only 4 out of 11 of us were able to clear our plates.
Unfortunately for the Black Horse, this mean that we failed to spend more money on extra drinks or anything sweet after the meal.
Considering that many of the family had lived in the town around half a century, none if ys was really aware of the excellence of this place.
We some or all of the group return? We definitely will do so.
Pleased with service and with what we were served up.
I did stretch my legs and discovered a large outdoor covered seating area. There were both heaters visible for colder days, and full side coverage of quality see through covers for wet or windy days.
We only get together a few times a year, but the Black Horse Thetford will receive repeat...
Read moreWe waited over 45 minutes for our food but let that slide as they took our reservation late in the afternoon. The sunday lunch was disappointing. Both Yorkshire puddings were burnt. The vegetarian nut roast was not a nut roast. It was the tangine butternut squash dish moulded into a patty shape. No one wants a sweet mildy spiced Morrocan inspired patty with a few shaved almonds on top masquearding as a nut roast...for a roast dinner. The spiced taste from the tangine butternut patty ruined the vegetables and mash as it was laid on top of them. Please order in some Linda McCartney vegan/veggie pies and sausages, or Richmond vegan/veggie sausages etc. There's so many meat substitutes nowadays so this sucked as I was really looking forward to the roast. The staff were lovely though and the pub itself has a...
Read moreFound ourselves out and wanting food so looked for a pub with food. Fine weather so was able to sit outside. Pleasant surroundings and at least someone who are reasonable with the covid rules. No don't do this don't do that which I hate. Food was a Sunday roast with a choice of meats. There was a vegetarian option and some other things in the menu. Prices in line. I had the roast. Roast potatoes were good and the meat was not outstanding but good. Vegetables looked and the texture suggested either frozen out of a packet of over cooked. In all, not bad, average. I would eat there again. I struggled with the star rating. I do think 4 stars would be over generous but 3 stars should not be...
