I usually come here often for a morning coffee but today I decided to sit in and have breakfast with a friend. We ordered the banana bread and each had a bite ..let me tell you this thing was dry, it was like eating a sawdust. Guys it was so bad. I’m pretty sure my front door would taste better. We obviously didn’t eat it and I told the person that worked there that it was pretty bad and they tried to claim that we ate it … I’m shocked!! I’ve barely eaten the first bite,it’s stuck in my throat! I explained how that wasn’t us eating it and that we had both tried it. They understood that to be true so they went to speak to the manager. Short while later, we get told that it’s because it’s VEGAN AND GLUTEN FREE THAT IT MAKES IT DRY??? “It’s on the menu as vegan and gluten free” .. yeah that’s great.. I’m telling you it’s inedible??? I ask to swap it for something else ..We get offered to pay half price for the banana bread and then pay full price for french toast instead.. duno about you but that doesn’t seem like a great deal? Anyway, we go to pay and I just wana leave at this point, just pay and go. The cashier asked how the food was , I was like nah not great! I explained about the issue and the conversation I had with the other colleague and how they said it was half price. The cashier said I’ve taken off your coffees instead. I didn’t do the maths and in hindsight I wish I had. I paid £15 in total. My order was a breakfast bun, banana bread, 3 oat flat whites. Now idk but £7.50 for a bun and £7.50 for a plate of dust seemed excessive. I paid , I left (no I didn’t get a receipt, annoyyeddd!, I should have) but I just wanted to go. I have gotten home now and have thought it all through and have delayed rage and disgust that you can claim that something tastes awful because it’s vegan! It’s safe to say I just don’t wana spend any more money there and I’m upset that I gave any of my money to them today tbf, which is a shame but guys if someone is telling you something is bad and I do not mean “not to my taste” , they shouldn’t be serving it. Please don’t give a limp excuse of “it’s vegan and gluten free”. Duno where you got that recipe, but it’s not it. I don’t know how a single slice of banana break can ruin my day but genuinely,...
Read moreWe’ve been to Burra a number of times and always enjoy our time there. The people that run it are so friendly and make it a very welcoming experience. Be warned, it’s always been busy whenever we’ve visited, so plan to wait a little bit - that said, it’s worth the wait.
They do good coffee - no filter/batch brew, sadly, but it’s otherwise a good selection - and there’s a varied menu, alongside lots of cakes and baked goods to choose from.
The space is a tad small; however, they’ve always made room for us, even when we’ve got the pram for our little one. People bring their dogs there and the facilities for little ones are great - they not only have high chairs, but a very clean bathroom with changing options, which I’m always very grateful for. Not great for a multi-Mum meet up, but for one or two of you, it’s fine.
My only tiny (constructive) criticism is that the scrambled eggs could do with more seasoning - they’ve been a little bland the few times that I’ve had them. Otherwise, the food is great. My favourite dishes so far are the salmon scramble and the french toast with bacon/maple syrup. They could also do with having a few toddler/child food options, even if it’s just some pre-packed snacks.
The one thing that I almost never leave without is some TimTams! Make sure to grab a pack of the double chocolate ones when you pay for your bill. You...
Read moreBeautiful little cafe. I didn't realise it was bigger when I went inside and they have a stunning little courtyard/patio. We ordered the sobrasada and eggs - this was so delightful, i've never tried spreadable chorizo but it was delicious. Everything went so well together and the hot honey was the cherry on top! It wasnt so sweet and had a good amount of spice.
We also ordered a matcha latte which is unfortunately VERY disappointing. It was sososo pale and was basically milk with a hint of matcha. What topped it off was that the matcha was mixed horribly (I will attach a picture) you can see all the floating matcha balls because it wasnt mixed and this made it VERY bitter and unenjoyable. We sent it back and asked for an orange juice. The orange juice was lovely and I didnt expect to enjoy it as much but it was very small in comparison to the matcha latte but I suppose its because it was freshly squeezed orange juice.
Overall, if I'm honest, the service was a bit slow and we didnt go at a busy time but what matters is that they were able to deal with the matcha latte professionally and we were happy with that. The food is absolutely delicious though and I would go back for the food if I had a good amount of time...
