Walking in I was taken away by the decor, it feels as though you are sat in a romantic garden, with an acoustic band serenading you. All the staff were attentive to all mine and my partners needs, making us feel really cared for! First came the drinks, I had the mango lassi which was jaw-dropping! The only way I can describe it is that it was like this creamy luscious land of Care Bears and rainbows and sunny skies. I would definitely recommend it again and again and would personally love to have it on tap in my home! Then the food came, served on perfectly warmed plates where we could construct our own dish to our liking. Each dish was prepared with beautiful plating, my calamari particularly stood out, decorated with an array of vibrant vegetables. The flavour of the calamari was insane! It was almost as if it had this honey-lemon glaze and a slight kick of spice. I then had the chicken dhansak with pilau rice and a peshwari naan which I literally couldn’t stop eating! I’m not normally huge on spice, so I decided to go out of my comfort zone with the medium spice dhansak and it did not disappoint. It had this wonderful flavour with a really beautiful kick to the spice. It wasn’t harsh, the spice complimented the flavour palette and I’m ngl I felt like remi from ratatouille eating it, it was like I had these explosions of flavour dancing around me in fireworks and pure culinary satisfaction. The blend of the peshwari naan, dhansak and pilau rice was particularly yummy. I would have this every day for the rest of my life if I could. The staff were super attentive, asking us about the meal and our enjoyment and were incredibly efficient when asked for anything - top tier customer service if you ask me! When talking with the staff, you could see just how passionate they were about the food and how interested they were to hear about our experience with it! Me and partner had an amazing time here and will definitely be...
Read more‘Urban Tandoor’ Clifton, the most local taste of India and to me it was a compulsion to find out more. A great wall of enthralling colour that stands a top Blackboy Hill, this is ‘Urban Tandoor’ Clifton. But what can appear so spectacular from without, is not always so from within. That said, I did very much want the taste of India only 5 minutes from my doorstep. It is our host, on this occasion at ‘Urban Tandoor’, I must deal with first and fore most. As service is what makes or breaks an experience. The gentleman who served us, this man, I am going to sing his praise, for he is worthy of it. The unprompted explanations provided, that verbally dissected the dishes placed in front of us, for myself, is a crown jewel of great service. But so much more than that, you do truly become fully immersed in the tasting experience. After being prompted to connect with your meal in this way, you see, it awakens your senses and this is a powerful technique. So many of our senses can so easily lye dormant during a meal. But when you really are seeing the phosphorescent orange sauce of a curry, being met at the nose by the symphony of smells the waft towards you and even hearing that tantalising crackle of a freshly baked popadom moments before it reaches your lips, this is good dinning. I am trying to paint a picture here, it is the picture of my time at ‘Urban Tandoor’ Clifton. My main course, it was rich, balanced, complex, what more could I ask for. It was a dish full of life. And the sauce, the one thing above all else I had turned up to try, it was undoubtably made with the knowledge and secrets of a very well...
Read moreI recently visited the Urban Tandoor Clifton Restaurant, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. To start, the service was incredibly slow and the staff were downright rude. Our server seemed irritated that we were even there, barely acknowledging us as we waited for our table. Once seated, it took over 20 minutes just to take our drink order, and another 40 minutes for our food to arrive — which, when it did, was cold and unappetizing.
The food itself was another disaster. I guess it was kind of rotten. The chicken tikka masala had an off-putting, greasy taste, and the spices seemed like they were just thrown together without care. Even worse, the smell of the dishes lingered in the air like a mix of stale, burnt oil and sour curry. The naan was dry and chewy, and the rice tasted as if it had been sitting out for hours.
As for the staff, they seemed completely uninterested in offering any customer service. Our server didn’t check on us once during the meal, and when we asked for a refill on our drinks, we got a sigh in response. It was a stark contrast to the friendly atmosphere you’d expect from a restaurant charging these prices. And one of my friend who used to work there as a part time employee told me that he used to saw mice all the time in the kitchen region.
The whole experience felt off — the food, the staff, and even the general smell of the place. I won’t be coming back, and I certainly won’t be recommending this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of better options around that actually care about quality...
