We had an amazing time here. We didnt get to try anything from the savoury menu as we had dinner prior but it did look and smell great. We did order the biscoff cheesecake though and we did not regret it! It was so soft and not overpowering on sweetness, I would love to get it again. They have so much games you can play during your time there and it is a massive range. They also have new packaged games which you can buy and take home! I suggest going off the "Roll for Luck" menu if you want a shot....you basically roll a number 20 dice and whatever number you get, their is a shot allocated. Its £4 a roll and we had peach liqueur, baby guinness, jammie dodger and a gin shot, so I'd say we had some pretty good results! Their elderflower spritz is also something I would suggest! We also booked a 2 hour slot from 8pm but we asked towards the end of our session if we can extend an extra hour and they were happy to do so, even on a busy friday night! The staff were welcoming, friendly and lively!! I already cant wait to come back!

We found ourselves with an hour or so spare this morning, and found this place on Google. When we arrived, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. They found us a table and explained the process - pay per hour per person and pick your games, simple. I usually feel under pressure if picking a game that is new to us, as we feel we are paying to learn a game. For that reason we chose to play a game we'd played once before. We then only had to remind ourselves how to play. We picked the two player card game Fungi. If you're interested in the result, I beat my wife by 2 points. The staff were attentive, but not overly so. They offered assistance with the game if we required it. To summarise, we were very pleased with our choice of where to spend an hour. If we are at a loose end and in the neighborhood, this will be a serious option for where to go. As we were at the start of a travelling holiday, and had left home without any board games, we also took the opportunity to add one more game to our ever growing collection.

Chance and counters offer one of the best board game cafe experiences I've had. They have an enormous selection of board games in relatively good condition and the staff are all extremely knowledgeable as well as being exceptional and attentive servers. The board games are clearly labelled according to style of play (light strategy, cooperative, 2 player, party etc...) and staff are able to make recommendations based on your experience and preferences. Gaming is £2 per person per hour usually, but there are often deals on certain nights or for special events. This works out quite well-- we played 5 games in 4 hours so this represents quite good value for money. I am really impressed by the quality of food on the menu-- for a venue that is primarily for playing board games the food is excellent. If you want a bigger selection of games the Christmas Steps venue has even more games but there is still a fantastic selection here.

Bloody love this games cafe! The kids (8, 12, 14) & I keep coming back because it's always guaranteed good fun for everyone.

The games selection is brilliant. We've tried at least one new game every time we've been and massively increased our household games shelf as a result - the recommendations of the staff are always spot on, even suggesting a better alternative when we've struggled with one the kids have pulled off the shelf based on the name / box alone 😂

The 2-4-1 milkshakes and £1 burger deals also save me a fortune, the cauliflower "wings" are fab whatever sauce I have them with - and I'm so happy to find somewhere that sells cream soda, means I get to revert to my own childhood whilst I'm there too hahaha 😆

Walking here is easiest, there is parking available but it's a bit hit-and-miss whether you'll find something 30s / 2mins / 5-10mins walk away, on one of the parallel streets! That said, we come in from outside Bristol and for us coming here early evening mid-week, I've always been able to find a spot outside or almost outside - it's mostly just weekends that are a bit tricky, because Glos Rd is always so bustling!

Heartily recommend this fab social games spot - honestly even if you don't play any games it's still...

We arrived on a Friday night at 8pm for an hour’s booked session and it was probably at its maximum busyness. Despite this the staff were exceptional. We had to wait for our table as we were half an hour early (hoping that a table might have been clear) but we were kept busy choosing a game and spoke to several helpful members of staff who were so polite and apologetic that they couldn’t seat us sooner. I was really impressed with the organisation and that my booking (that I’d only made an hour before) was already on a spreadsheet with all the tables.

Anyway, we choose a game based on a recommendation by one of the team - Project L - and had a really enjoyable game. This was 100% because it was explained to us so clearly at the beginning by the very tall young man who recommended it in the first place. Thank you so much!

Such a great atmosphere and a lovely way to spend some time. We only had drinks but the food looked good too. Next time we’ll book for longer.

Tip - I didn’t realise you that you don’t pay when booking a table so hesitated as I wasn’t exactly sure of times and then there was only an hour slot left. Next time, I’ll...

As anyone who has lived around Bristol does, I find Chance and Counters to be an incredible and relaxing space. The concept in itself is simple but it is always a great time there! You pay a set rate per hour per person in order to access any of the many games they have.

I always appreciate how knowledgeable the staff is, if you come to them with criteria, they will try to find the perfect match for you and your friends, usually with a range of options. They also will take the time to explain anything that might be unclear about the games. It is very engaging to see people enjoy their work so much.

It is also a great way to try out new games if you want before buying them, which is always handy.

The food and drinks are good and reasonably priced, however I do find the tables are a bit small. When you add up drinks, food and a game, it can get a bit tricky to manage.

And finally, the pricing per hour does tend to add up a bit quickly, which is a shame because it seriously limits how long you can stay and enjoy the place. But if you do not consummate drinks or food, it is definitively...
