It is insulting that this restaurant has the audacity to call itself (Clifton) Thai! The association to Thai food was non -existence, I ordered a Pad Thai which included mini chunks of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, clearly from the frozen section in Iceland. It also came with a lemon instead of a lime, accompanied by a pile of iceberg lettuce. As well as this, the side dish I ordered (chicken dumpling) was equally as terrible, my friend even commented on it’s gummy texture, which was a perfect description. Aside from the food, a retirement home would have a better atmosphere. There was no music, bright harsh lights and a dirty fish tank.
However, the most appalling aspect of this tragic experience was the staffs customer service, they neglected our table, we waited over an an hour and twenty minutes for service and food delivery, even though we were one of four tables.
After complaining about the low quality of food, shown by the lack we ate as could not stomach the dishes, the chef came across very argumentative and demanded we paid the full price, which was extortionate at £25 pp. We managed to get a 10% discount which we were shocked by as the plates were practically full. If I could save at least one person from going here from this review it will have served it purpose. Our skin was crawling with a revolting feeling all night, what a traumatic experience, it should...
Read moreFirst time experience with this restaurant, we ordered a takeaway. Staff very polite, but we were sorry of existing that given our 2 starters and 2 mains cost £60, which is an extravagantly high price for a simple takeaway. The Tom Yum soup appears to have been made using a shop bought paste, there were none of the fresh ingredients you bought get in a Tom Yum soup. Just a bland soup with a few mushrooms added and 4 prawns (for an extra £3!!!). The mixed starter was tiny, every element had more than a sniff of cost cutting about it, they were like child portions. The ribs were good, everything else was distinctly average, which is highly disappointing given the price. Thai green curry was good but watered down to make it go futher, and there were a few tiny slithers of beef (again, for the extra £3). The beef in black bean sauce was also childlike in portion size. Overall some elements of the food were good but the overwhelming feeling is one of cost cutting whilst ripping you off. We should literally have paid half the price for what we received, and the average quality nowhere near stacks up against the high pricing and insultingly small...
Read moreWe tried Clifton Thai for take away this evening, its been on my 'to try list for ages, unfortunately it was a complete disappointment! The food took ages to arrive with initial estimated delivery time of 18.35 slipping back to 19.20. The quality of the starters in particular was extremely poor. I think the restaurant should be ashamed to let such low standards leave the kitchen, especially when £7.50 is expensive for each starter. The salt and pepper squid came in a polystyrene burger type box and there were 4 small pieces, with a soggy hot lettuce leaf and 2 very thin slices of chilli. The ribs were grey, there were 3 tiny bits in like water 2 were gristle and inedible. The chicken wings, a better portion size for the price but soggy and so hot they tasted like they had been microwaved for way too long. Thai fish cakes were average at best a bit plastic like in texture. Sticky rice was ok, but an easy win! The main dishes red and a green curry were average. I likely wouldn't have written this review if I'd just had the mains, but I won't be...
