Ordered a large brown stew fish with rice & pea, plantain & 2 dumplings
Now then⦠I find it quite rare to see brown stew fish on the menu of a Caribbean restaurant/takeaway (it should be more common, I donāt know why not?! Itās one of if not the best Caribbean meals on offer IMO.) so after scouring through about 10 different Jamaican menus on the east side of Bristol, to find one with brown stew fish on the menu I was already pleased!
The fish, a whole red snapper, was lovely and fresh and pulled away from the bone nice an easy, the stew that goes with it had the authentic stew flavour and consistency I was looking for, rice and pea was perfect, veg was well cooked and flavoursome, plantain was bangin and the dumplings had a unique crispy, crummy crust on them that Iāve never experienced on a Caribbean dumpling before.
For Ā£19 I was absolutely stuffed! Could have halved everything I bought and had 2 meals out of it to be fair but I hadnāt eaten anything that day so ate the lot! Masses of rice, plenty of veg, whole chunky fish, thick cut plantain & generously sized dumplings!
Service was good, the guy behind the counter soon cracked on with it after Iād ordered over the phone and his young female accomplice behind the counter was incredibly smiley⦠Good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered two salt fish fritters Ā£1 each, large oxtail with rice and peas Ā£13. Where do I start, well the fritters were literally just salty fritters, not one piece of fish in either. Oxtail was the worst Iāve ever had. Mine tastes better whenever I make it, tasted of tomato ketchup. Rice was soggy and stuck together with no flavour and some pointless veg. Plus it arrived quickly but cold, they didnāt even bother warming it up. So dissatisfied and disappointed with this meal that Iāve had to throw the oxtail and rice in the bin, canāt even give that to a dog. How on earth are they still in business. First and last taste of this food. Only got it from there as bikkle didnāt have any. Iāll do without next time Bikkle...

This reminded me of my mum's cooking. Also, I would most definitely recommend fruit punch in a cup with ice in it. A great drink to have while eating food. The only problem is the parking as the streets are surrounded by double yellow lines but I wouldn't use that as an excuse to not go here. Also, the staff in Mama Celos were fantastic, very friendly, and great with the recommendations. I'll be...
