Best dining experience I've had in a long time, highly recommend.
We arrived at 5:30pm for dinner, and were the only table inside at that time. The atmosphere was lovely, very calm, quiet, with nice relaxing upbeat music that made it easy to chat and feel relaxed. They had a deal for 2 main meals and 2 glasses of Cremant for £40 which we took advantage of. We also ordered the rosti starter to share, and dessert after.
The food was simply incredible. The rosti sharer was three beautifully crispy and delicious potato cubes which were golden brown, lightly salted and grated with parmesan. Soft in the middle, crunchy on the outside, it was an ideal starter.
My main meal was the aubergine parmigiana, which was out-of-this-world. The lightly grilled/fried aubergine was under a layer of molten cheese and a rich and flavourful tomato sauce which was crispy on the bottom of the plate. Every bite was great, I would rate 10/10.
We decided to stay for dessert, and I had the date sponge. The sponge was like a traditional sticky toffee pudding, but without toffee sauce (there is a little bit of what I assume is a sweet date sauce), and with vanilla ice cream on top. It was nice, but I still kept thinking of the aubergine parmigiana.
Highly recommend, we will be...
Read moreThis was an odd lunch. First off, it’s getting chilly, so there was nobody was sitting outside. It wasn’t clear whether the place was even open, something that could be easily remedied with signage. I’m we went and it was a while before we were acknowledged; the waitress was deep in conversation with the only table of customers (the occupants of which had clocked up but continued their discussion). Nonetheless, said waitress was a very pleasant young woman and we were duly seated. The surroundings could do with a bit of a spruce, from unfinished wall panelling in the recess next to our table(look up), patchy walls, oddly out of place shabby lights and even a good furniture polish. It was a soft drink day and the home mixed lemonades were delicious. Our lunches were both based on very good, soft but slightly chewy signature sourdough flatbreads. Poached eggs were well done and richly golden. However, the béchamel and hollandaise were less luxurious than suggested and the mushrooms could have been more toasted. Also I had to get up to seek out salt and pepper. I’d could be tempted to return to try the hash browns. All in all, we aren’t put off, but for just shy of £40 (plus Clifton parking), it...
Read moreWe had a really disappointing experience here. One of my friends ordered the spicy eggs without the nduja as she is vegetarian. When the food arrived, the staff even referred to her dish as the “veggie spicy eggs,” so she trusted she had received the right meal. However, partway through eating, we realised she had actually been given the regular spicy eggs containing nduja. This meant she ate meat for the first time in over 10 years.
When we raised this with the staff, there was no proper apology- just an offer of a free drink. We had to specifically ask for her meal to be taken off the bill. For a mistake that serious, especially one that goes against someone’s dietary choices and values, we expected...
