Have you ever been to a restaurant, and before youāve even left youāre planning your return? This is one of those for me ā¤ļø
Why? First up, the people. Iām a big believer in āgut feelingsā and Ilaria & Stefano gave me the good kind. The couple, who double up as owners, with Ilaria on front of house and Stefano in the kitchen (making fresh pasta, daily, amongst other things), gave us the most incredibly warm and genuine welcome to their little business. They gave great recommendations and answered all of our (sometimes random) questions, and it took me back to the experiences we had in trattorias on honeymoon roadtripping in Tuscany š®š¹
Secondly, (more importantly for some) the food. If youāve followed me for a while, you know I have a (bordering on irrational) obsession with arancini 𤤠There are SIX flavours on the menu, we went for the Roman style (ragù w/ mozzarella) and the leek & Gorgonzola⦠both blooming delicious!! The fact theyāre 2 for Ā£7 or 4 for Ā£12.50 pleases my inner bargain hunter too šš» They were some of the best Iād ever had and we had them with a tagliere and focaccia (heavenly). It was at this point I was already saying to Mr E.E when can we come back š
For mains we shared a pizza (the āProsciutto and Parmesanā, delicious, even though Iād missed on the menu it didnāt have a tomato base š) and the highly recommended āGnudiā (aka naked ravioli), which are made with ricotta, spinach, and Parmesan. A gorgeous combination and we still had room for pudding (winning šš»)!
I wasnāt sure weād be able to finish desserts but my chocolate soufflĆ© and Mr E.Eās pistachio tiramisu were so good, we couldnāt bear to waste a mouthful ā¤ļø Then we went a bit rogue and finished with a limoncello! Which felt a bit naughty but also rather wonderful, and again took me back to holiday memoriesā¦
They have lunch deals (you know I love an offer) so am planning a sneaky trip in the New Year for that, and Iāve also promised my Sardinian sister that weāll go and tick off the rest of the arancini flavours one evening (plus anything else we can stuff down). So in summary, yes,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIncredible. We went in only because it was almost 10pm and all the other places around had already closed-- neither of us felt like italian and I (being from italy) always feel highly skeptical of Italian restaurants in the UK. But we figured, whatever, we're starving. Honestly, the menu was just a list of green flags. All the ingredients and food pairing listed, the wines, the types of pastas available, the whole thing was just great. Se sei italianÉ anche tu: hai in mente quando guardi un menu e dici "va beh ok non ne capisci niente?" Tipo i piselli nella carbonara, o cose del genere. No, baby, the carbonara had guanciale, pecorino, and too many egg yolk to count. It was so creamy. So tasty. My boyfriend had the mortadella and ricotta ravioli-- the thickness of the pasta??? Please. It had such a perfect bite to it. The sauce was so rich and flavourful. Honestly, probably the best Italian food I've ever had in 7 years in the UK. So good. I know the exterior looks very random but the food is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent early on a Thursday night and had no problem getting a table, but it was getting busier soon after. Lovely genuine atmosphere without trying to much, we felt comfortable from the start. Service was very friendly, but could've probably done with a second person to help out when it got busier. My partner had one of the small Fried Pizzas as a starter with lovely dough and a sauce bursting with flavour. Mains were tagliatelle with mushrooms, sausage made in-house and pecorino (photo). My partner had Carbonara. Both dishes excellent! Just the right portion size and again full of flavour. Opted for the traditional Tiramisu for dessert and wasn't disappointed. One of the chef's approached us as we left, asking if we had enjoyed our evening. Really nice gesture and we were more than happy to compliment on the food. Indeed we had had a...
