The food at this place was utter bland and nowhere near what we thought we were ordering! We asked one of the waiters about a dish on the menu, to which he had no clue about and said he would call someone to answer our questions, but nobody came. We then had a waiter come to take our order who looked like he was still in school or just left school and we asked about the garlic chapati and whether the garlic was in the dough or how it was made. The waiter told us with confidence that the garlic was made into the dough. When the chapati arrived, it had a very strong garlic paste just smothered all over and NOT in the dough. We were very disappointed! The starters we ordered (the mix grill) had lamb chops that had seen better days as they were very chewy and tough to tear apart. The chicken tikka was dry, bland and not marinated well. I could taste the rawness of the chicken still and it made me feel very sick. The only thing I managed to eat from it was the kebabs. It was definitely not worth £12-13 for the utter disappointment! The main we ordered was a cardamon chicken curry and we asked for it to be made in the Asian style so quite spicy and it was another failure added to the others we just had. There was zero signs of any cardamom in there, we couldn't see nor taste any. They had drizzled some chilli sauce/ketchup under the curry to try and represent the added spice flavour but they may aswell have not bothered as that added nothing to the dish. Once we had finished and we didn't finish our plates, we raised these concerns to a senior waiter, who only apologised and said he would raise it to the head chef. We were hoping for some kind of empathy and for them to understand us. We asked if we could have some discount maybe, as paying £30-35 for that meal didn't seem worth it at all. We got told that was impossible for them to do. We regretted not going over the road to Shimlas and we quickly understood why shinlas was extremely busy that night but aroma wasn't. It's all in the food and service, which was not up to...
Read moreWe came to Aroma by chance after we were unable to find a place to get a curry in the nearby town of Nelson. My wife and I were in the area visiting relatives and we were hoping to find better asian cuisine than where we live (wigan) where we are yet to find a decent curry. We got to Aroma fairly late on a thursday night. From the outside it looked a little empty but when we got inside we realised there were a few parties of people spread around the spacious and tastefully modern restaurant. We were quickly greeted and shown to a seat comfortably away from other diners, we thought it nice that they valued customer privacy over making the place look busy by filling from the window. The staff were very courteous whilst warm and friendly. We ordered sheek kebabs and paneer koftas to start, my wife tells me both were quite spicy but we enjoyed both. We had extra hot chicken tikka phal (I tend to request this everywhere) and a chick tikka karahi. Both were really nice, the heat level in the phal was good, and the meat was very fresh and tender. I had a nice light peshwari naan and at the waiters recommendation my wife had keema rice, again both delicious. Wine was good-nice glass to drink from. Meal for two came to 49.50 which we thought good value. Would highly recommend...
Read moreAt visited early on a Monday Evening so Aroma was fairly quiet and I was shown straight to a booth on the upper level. My drinks was taken as I read the menu and I was quickly served an ice cold bottle of Cobra beer. I ordered a couple of papadoms with the pickle tray, a peshawar kebab, and a chicken Jalfrezi with a garlic naan. The poppadoms were fresh tasting and crispy and all the pickles were as you would expect; mango, onion, yoghurt mint and a spicy sweet chilli. My starter of peshawar Kebab came a with salad garnish if lettuce and cherry tomatos and a pickled green chilli. The kebab was quite substantial in size and was tasty and very succulent but not as spicy as I had expected with chilli's being one of its named ingredients. My main chicken jalfrazi was spot on. The waiter had informed me it was a hot spicy dish and although you could feel the burn it was by no means an overpowering heat. You still could still taste and appreciate the flavours of the meal. The chicken was very tender. The naan was fresh although for my taste I would have preferred a stronger garlic flavour. The service was 5-star. Attentive but not over bearing friendly and polite but not over familiar. I would definitely reccomend a visit and will...
