West Ivy- we came for afternoon tea last friday to celebrate a belated fathers day. We had a party of 6 adults and 2 children under the age of 3. We understand the rule of 6 and booked 2 tables of 4, all we requested is that our table be in close proximity of each other so that we felt like we were together. Upon requesting this, one of the staff members became quite irate and muttered under his breath... but loud enough for us to hear, "why do these ppl not understand the rule of six... I can't take this". I found this extremely unprofessional and made our party very uncomfortable, as we were not breaking any rules. We said nothing further and we were then sat in different sections of the restaurant with a glass window between us. As we sat down the table next to us was vacated, so we very politely asked if it was possible to move the other members of our party to that table. We were met by huffs and puffs by the member of staff who said "let me see"... he eventually came back and said yes this is possible but we were not allowed to cross tables.... which was something we totally understood and were not planning to do anyway as we know the rule of 6. We were then met with a very stealy waitress who seemed to mind that some of the party were vegetarian and it was a hassel for her to swap out the meat for a vegetarian option. Whilst waiting for our food we were watch by every member of staff that walked by.... we did not break the rule of crossing tables as we said we wouldn't. This made us feel very uncomfortable.
When the food arrived, it was lovely and we all enjoyed it very much... until there was a hair found in one of the katsu buns on the afternoon tea. With all that had happened already we felt so uncomfortable however we did mention this to the waitress who apologised and bought out a replacement, however by this point we were put off our food. All in all we spent nearly £185 for a not so pleasant experience. We found the staff very rude.
For a belated fathers day that we were all looking forward to, it was very disappointing. And may I add, not once did we cross tables ( even talk to the other table) ..... even though our party all live under one roof in the same house.... because we were happy to follow the rules. And on top when a hair was found in the food a mere weak apology was given and that is all.... it is very hard to explain but the feeling we got was that we were being discriminated against because of the colour of our skin....Deeply deeply disappointed..... Will not be returning and I recommend neither does...
Read moreBooked afternoon tea for my friends birthday and was quite disappointed considering the hype surrounding this place. We had all seen numerous pictures and/or videos promoting this restaurant so our expectations were high... The restaurant itself is lovely and the waiters and waitresses helpful. At first glance, the afternoon tea is quite impressive but once you dissect what you actually get that's when the cracks start to show. We liked the brie and chutney on bruschetta and the avocado too. The halloumi with sweet chilli dip was also quite nice (though some pieces a little squeaky) as well as the skin on fries. The Cajun chicken salad was on the small side - a few pieces of chicken in a small steel bowl with some leaves and some dressing. The pictures we had seen did not match what we actually got. The salted caramel cheesecake was, to us, inedible. It tasted far too much of actual cheese (best thing to compare would be the cheese dip out of dairlea dunkers) - when we complained about this the manager said this was down to "personal preference" but I have both made and eaten lots of cheesecake in the past and none of them have tasted like actual cheese before. The menu stated we would receive a "bucket of popcorn" yet what we actually got was around 3-4 pieces in a small glass pot. The rest of the dessert section was yummy (marshmallow with brownie and small doughnuts with a chocolate sauce and a single strawberry). Also included was a "pink unicorn shake" which was delicious but we got less than other customers did. The manager was able to sort all these issues out for us and this experience would not put us off returning, however, we would go for their actual menu and not the over hyped...
Read moreUnfortunately after eating there recently I wouldn't recommend, on arrival we picked an outside table after sitting there for a while. I caught the attention of a member of staff who told us where to find menus and how to place an order nothing about to point us in this direction beforehand 🤔. Drinks came more or less straight away unlike the food, I noticed people that came and ordered after us were getting there meals before us and was a good while before ours appeared. We'd both ordered Southern Fried Basket well what a big disappointment, both had chicken goujons in a soggy undercooked coating, onion rings not crispy again undercooked. both lukewarm I brought it to the attention of a member of staff Dora. Who told me she'd get somemore chicken cooked and to carry on eating our meal. Well what was edible coleslaw and chips 😔 we'd waited so long my partner carried on eating his. After a while 3 pieces of chicken strips appeared in a bowl by this time chips were cold 😕 Dora came to clear our table and apologised for our experience not her doing. I put it down to kitchen staff with no care and lack of attention to detail, of what they are sending out of the kitchen or inexperienced staff. Dora went to speak to her manager Dora came back and offered us both a drink I wasn't looking for a drink, I was giving feedback on our experience and explained to her eating out these days is a luxury and expensive. People look forward to eating out and substandard meals ruin what should be a nice day out. Even though Dora is a credit to the company, we won't be paying it...
