Disappointing Service on What Should Have Been a Special Night.
We visited Miller & Carter for our 3-year anniversary – a tradition we’ve kept every year - and unfortunately, this time the service really let us down.
After being seated, we waited over 20 minutes before anyone even approached us to take our drinks order. When our server, Attir, finally came over, he seemed completely disinterested.
I had a voucher for two small glasses of fizz that I’d been saving especially for our anniversary. It was showing as valid on the app, we were even told about it earlier in the year during a previous visit. However, the moment I mentioned it, I was made to feel silly. The way the server spoke to me was incredibly patronising – like I was a child. He ID’d me two separate times (i’m 23 and have never been ID’d there previously) and still didn’t seem satisfied, eventually calling over the manager, who also refused the voucher without any real explanation.
I still don’t understand what the issue was – we’re talking about two small glasses of fizz. The whole scene was awkward and embarrassing, especially as other diners started to notice. It really took the shine off our night.
From then on, Attir was blunt, bordering on rude. When I mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary, he scoffed. Then, when our drinks finally arrived, the name printed on the Coke bottle read “My Mate” - whether that was a coincidence or not, it felt passive-aggressive and only added to the discomfort especially as we are a same sex couple.
The food, as always, was excellent – Miller & Carter never disappoints on that front – but sadly, the poor service cast a shadow over what should have been a special and memorable evening.
We left feeling disappointed and deflated, which is such a shame considering this was supposed to be a...
Read moreMy first and probably last time that I'll visit this restaurant. We arrived and the person that showed us to the table was brilliant, he realised that it was my son's birthday so wished him a happy birthday. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. The waiter was as miserable as sin and it felt like we were an inconvenience. We ordered drinks that took 15 minutes to arrive in 2 separate stages. We were only a party of 3. We then ordered our food and after 20 minutes it started to arrive. Firstly my food arrived and it was cold (the burger and fries just about warm) , my partners steak arrived but no accompaniments and no sign of my son's steak. I had to go and find someone to sort mine out. My partner's side orders arrived 5 minutes later but still no sign of my son's steak. My replacement arrived and I was told that it wasn't cold but agreed to replace it as goodwill gesture and that I had misunderstood how the food was made (sorry but cold fries are cold fries) I called the waiter over and asked what was going on whether my son's steak and his response was "it will be ready soon". From the first arrival of my food to my son's fries (arrived after his steak) there was a total of 20 minutes. All 3 of us ended up having to eat our meals separately due to the timing of it all. The waiter, topped the visit off perfectly when you could could see his disgust when I refused to leave a tip. I'll try the other restaurant in Cardiff but won't go near the Cardiff bay branch.
Disjointed service, cold food and a...
Read moreI normally visit miller and carter every year for my birthday but the last couple of times have not been the same as it used to be. Disappointed about the experience as it was my 25th birthday and couldn’t have a wine with my food because I forgot my ID (my fault) I had photos of my passport and ID on my phone but that wasn’t allowed to be presented which was understandable. However my partner and my sisters partner didn’t get ID’d and had their drinks no problem despite my sisters partner being 3 years younger than me !!! I felt singled out and embarrassed. I wish they would’ve been ID’d too as it was only fair? After that we went on to allergies my sister and her partner both put there hands up for allergies but the waiter only catered to my sisters partner and not her who has a fruit allergy but she felt as though she couldn’t say anything after being ignored and didn’t want the fuss. For the price of miller of Carter I feel like the quality and standard of food has gone downhill. The lettuce wedge had hardly any cheese or garlic mayonnaise in it it felt like some wet lettuce that just been cleaned put in a bowl and you would be lucky to find some cheese in there. Plates weren’t cleared often we had to bowls to the side where we were sitting in the end. My mums steak was tough and the sweet potato fries were nuked and have clearly be left and sat out because they were cold. The next day a few of our party have fallen ill and I’ve got sent home from work for being too poorly. Happy...
