Busy Saturday I will accept and people sat outside with combination of crockery and paper cups. I joined the queue whilst my family took the only remaining table which was outside. I queued for 20 mins and finally got to the counter. When placing my order for the drinks to begin with, I was told that it was paper cups only, I asked if my husband could have a proper cup (there were tons next to the coffee machine and didn't think 1 out of 4 was a big ask) and I was told no! Paper cups only as too busy. As she was saying this a tray was going out to a table outside with crockery on. I asked why I had to queue for 20 mins to find this out and was unceremoniously told it was because they were too busy!
So much for the warm Yorkshire welcome I promised my husbands visiting family! 0 out of 10 for acommodation and friendliness. Now crossed off my corporate list. And a ba-humbug to you too Deli Cafe!
We left without ordering and spent our £40 at a cafe around the corner where accommodating arthritic hands with a proper cup just came as part of the standard service!
Would it really have hurt you to take one proper cup from your big pile.
In case your are not getting it, we were really angered and offended as your attitude stinks particularly as you weren't charging take...
Read moreNever in my life have I seen such horrific service, and I really am not joking. The children had waited a long time and the miserable looking waitress brought out the adult's food first... when she finally brought the children's food it was plain un - toasted sandwich baps instead of the cheese and ham toasties that were ordered for them. Once reminded of the actual order she then stated "I can take them back if you need me to".. and they literally just toasted the bread of the same cold sandwiches and brought them back. When complained to the manager or supervisor (unsure what he was), he very begrudgingly refunded part of the child's meal. He went back to the table and said to the children of 2 and 6, who were picking at the sandwiches "oh so you DO want to eat them now then?!!'.. everyone around and all the other customers who saw were flabbergasted. Honestly I don't ever leave reviews but what on earth is that behaviour, especially to children.. how are these people employed?. I never complain about anything but I genuinely advise you to stay away from here if you think good service should...
Read moreService was brilliant, really polite staff. Cannot fault them
The food however, while it tasted nice, The portions were measley. Never used to be so someone has made the decision to really cut them down.
My wife had a jacket potato with beans and cheese. The potato was small to say the least, Reasonable amount of cheese on the potato but the butter came separately in pot, so had to remove the cheese to apply the butter, then reconstruct it.
I had the ploughmans lunch, There is a "sharing" version available which includes bread and butter but for some reason the individual one doesn't. So I basically got a pork pie with some cheese, a bit of chutney and a large portion of Coleslaw, really needed a bread roll or something.
Certainly doesn't offer value for money anymore, Which is a shame because a few years ago it was brilliant. There are plenty of other places to eat in town and I'd consider these over the Piece Hall...
