Venue is quite nice - working as a restaurant since the 50's I'm told. Our table was adjacent to the cocktail blender so very noisy along with the cutlery station so lots of whirring, grinding and rattling etc from there whilst the staff regularly dig a handful of spoons out etc. no music (that we could hear) Oh and on the topic of cutlery, apparently all cutlery (knives and forks only) are boil washed and super heated dry and the packed by gloved hand into a heat sealed superhygeinic envelope... but if you need a spoon they're in a big box behind our table open to the elements and ready for the next waiters ungloved hand to have a good old rattle around in... seems like a waste of effort with the knives and forks if you're not bothering for the table spoons, tea spoons etc... also, maybe it's just me but when you submit an order to a waiter and they're inputting it on what appears to be an old iphone it kinda makes me feel like I'm being ignored by my teenage stepson when I'm waffling on... maybe get some phone cases made with La Luna branded on it so i don't feel like I'm interupting a tik-tok with my starter..
The service in general was good but with marks down for some of the waiters - barely a word spoken, the superhygeinic cutlery envelopes just dumped in front of you, spatial awareness not so good either - if you're waiting a table and bend over, please be aware of the table behind you - i don't want anyone's bumbum in my face whilst I'm trying to eat... work don't twerk!
The food was... okay? Haloumi fries yes! But not sure pomegranite seeds work on the same plate as chilli jam. Chicken parma was a bit bland... the baclava just does not resemble any we've had before and not in a good way at all. to be honest the food matched the service and the service is included in the charge at 10% so I'm not surprised there's not much enthusiasm from the lads - no incentive.
We still had a nice time and the wife paid so I was happy. Won't go...
Read moreOn another levelâŚâŚâŚ.. My wife and I, along with our dear friends, visited La Luna, Halifax, on Friday afternoon, 27th of May (2022). What a place, it is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant has been fitted out with the best furniture, chairs, tables, lighting etc. There are wine racks around the walls, the bar area looks terrific and then there is the â livingâ wall. This looks like something from the Amazon jungle, ferns, grasses, lichen etc, covering an entire wall. You really do have to see it. There is an outside area to the restaurant. This is a lovely place to eat. There are patio heaters to keep off the summer chills and there is Wisteria ( real or fake, I didnât investigate) covering part of the outside. Now, to the really important stuff, the food. I have to say that the food was superb. I had the Pil pil prawns to start followed with a steak pizza, both were delicious and piping hot ( I canât stand food that is supposed to be hot, served lukewarm). The waiters were excellent, polite and professional, very attentive and friendly. They were all smiling and seemed genuinely happy in their work, obviously a great restaurant to work for. La luna is on another level. A fantastic experience. Well done to ALL. Just a point to mention. I have read other reviews on La luna and quite a number of them refer to the automatic service charge that is added to the bill. It is naughty of La luna to do this and indeed, many restaurants do, but you DO NOT have to pay this automatic service charge. You can ask for it to be taken off the bill and then you can, if you wish, leave a tip that you think is appropriate. As for the tips getting/ going to the waiters, waitresses or chefâs I donât know, one can only hope that...
Read moreWe had a disappointing experience during our visit at lunchtime today. We booked a table online for four people and requested a high chair. On arrival, we were told that pushchairs are not allowed inside the restaurant. While we understand space may be limited, we had a compact travel pram that folded easily and could have fit under the table without causing any obstruction.
Although there is a sign on the door stating no pushchairs inside, this policy wasnât mentioned during the online booking process. If a high chair is requested, it should be reasonable to expect that a child may arrive in a pram. We were told to leave the pram outside, but there was no safe or secure space provided, just the open street.
The staff were quite abrupt and made it clear we werenât even allowed to step inside to explain or discuss the situation. In the end, we were offered a table on the terrace area outside, where pushchairs are allowed. While we appreciated being accommodated, it was a bit too cold for outdoor dining and not what we had hoped for. Even then, we folded the pram and stored it neatly under the table.
We canât fault the food and understand the need to manage limited space, but clearer communication during the booking process and a more considerate approach from staff would make a big difference. A simple option to indicate if youâre bringing a pushchair or to request a suitable table would help avoid experiences like this...
