30th dec. Waiteded for weeks to have a meet with friends, Booked a table for 4pm, had 4 pizzas and 3 pints each in a group of 6. Everything was sound. Vocation is my absolute favourite brewery, went for a few drinks else where and decided to go back for a few. We decided to order another couple of pizzas for the group which we were told will be half an hour which was no problem. 55minutes later we asked if they were nearly ready. A bloke behind the bar with glasses and a beard who was extremely rude said, we told you about an hour, we said, we had never spoken to you and it was a lad behind the pizza bar with a vocation shirt on who told us half an hour. He began to deny this lad even existed so we said check the cameras. His behaviour towards us as customers was disgusting. It was clear he was stressed and behind with work but no way should he have taken it out on paying customers. No communication to say it was late, we had to ask twice and when we did he made it feel like we were doing something wrong. We are at hebden Bridge and Halifax vocation regularly but if this is how we are going to be treated by staff we won't be at Halifax again. As a group we spend £300+ each time we are in and to be treated like that is a joke. I just hope as a family group you get better service...

(June 2025) Popped back in before a gig at the Piece Hall. Ordered three pizzas and drinks, plus garlic bed and olives. £85. Good value. Very tasty.

Again, only issues are NO cutlery and the pizzas are so floppy, the ingredients fall off when you pick them up. Perhaps cook for another few minutes to firm up or provide cutlery 🍴 😠

(June 2024) This is my favourite Brewery since moving to Halifax. The beer is delicious. This is a great bar, always has a great atmosphere and there is a wide range of craft beers on choice. I’ve been in a few times now, but this review is based on after visiting again and trying the pizza for the first time

The table was dirty, it was easily a 30 minute wait, we ordered olives and two 12” inch pizzas. Rather than the olives coming out immediately, they came out when the pizza arrived. There’s no cutlery; the flavours were good, but the base was slightly too thick, the toppings were undercooked and it resulted in very floppy slice = all the toppings fell off each time you picked a slice up. With no cutlery it made it harder to eat. I know the point of pizza is to get stuck in, but it would be helpful if you could choose a pizza base style? Paid £33. Please can we have clean tables...

We visited the upstairs area of the Vocation Bar in Halifax and were immediately struck by the vibrant atmosphere and friendly crowd — a great vibe all round. We managed to find a table tucked away from the speakers, which was a relief as the sound quality left a lot to be desired. The music was high-pitched and tinny, and quite overwhelming in volume.

Our table was thankfully stable, but it was hard to miss that several others nearby looked flimsy and even collapsing in places.

We ordered a pizza, which was absolutely delicious — a definite highlight of the evening. It was served by a lovely member of staff, but unfortunately there were no serviettes provided, which made eating a very messy affair given how hands-on it was.

Room for improvement:

Upgrade the sound system to improve audio quality and reduce harshness

Invest in sturdier, more permanent furniture

Improve overall tidiness of the upstairs area

Ensure food is served with serviettes and condiments to enhance the dining experience

In summary, a great spot with fantastic potential — the food and vibe are winners, but a few simple upgrades could really elevate...

Really top notch bar and place to eat this, always been a big fan of the Vocation brand and their drinks and have been going to their hebden bar for years, this Halifax version is great, top notch selection with all the core range in fine form at good prices, some nice variation with the guest ales, nice little can/bottle fridge that is well stocked and the wonder wheel pizza addition is superb again with a great menu, big portions and very tasty, staff really helpful and friendly and always a warm welcome, set over 3 floors including the roof terrace (when in use), my personal favourite is the middle floor as it has a lovely cozy gentlemen's drinking club feel, really superb fit out with loads of space, a great addition to an already vibrant ale scene in Halifax, keep up the good work guys, highly recommended 🍻🍻😋👍

Ok, time to rewrite my original review. Yes I miss the lantern, no it's not the same as it was, but progress happens and I have to finally admit that another local organisation has taken it on, and has created 3 floors of different pub/bar in one place. It does really good pizza, a range of beer, a more spirit based bar and a roof terrace. The beer rotates regularly the pizzas are well made and well priced. It has albeit grudgingly become a regular stop in the 'fax tour. I have to eat my words, they have made a good place better; so no longer a music venue- go to the piece hall. Not a small scale - home brew bar- go to the Meandering Bear. This place is ace. This place could charge double the price if it was in Leeds, and it would be full of t@#ts. So win win
