The Duke Of Wellington — Restaurant in Calderdale

Went in after years and a refurbishment after generally avoiding it.. was very much impressed on that occasion. Lovely and tidy, nice selection of beers and a very friendly staff and manager who went out of his way to arrange for us to watch the Grand Prix (amongst a pub full of football fans). Definitely planned on going back especially after a lovely pizza and tge manager actually saying 'see you for the next grand prix'. So, along with other family members who we had recommended pub too, we went along on Sunday aiming to all have food and beer while watching the race. Unfortunately this visit was not a happy one and will probably be the last. First we had a very unhelpful staff member who would not put on the grand prix even though there are lots of TVs in there and not that many customers and in fact the bottom section was empty. Eventually after mentioning the manager had put it on before, she begrudgingly put it on. We spent a lot of money on food and drinks then suddenly the race disappeared and more football came on. When we questioned this it was obvious she just 'could not be bothered' and would only say that they had advertised the extra game and had to put it on. Table we were sat at was dirty.Had a wipe with me and it was black after cleaning it.Waited 45 minutes for food.We wanted our food all together as it was a birthday meal and they brought the 3 piece platter first after saying we didn't want it as a starter we wanted it bringing out all together.Asked for the chips wth the platter also which they brought ten minutes later.Everyone else waited a further 15 minutes for their food.My daughters garlic bread tasted like cardboard with oil on and a sprinkling of herbs not any hint of garlic.The drunken mushrooms were fried in a weird tasting oil.Either that or it wasn't heated enough to temperature before frying.The waitress was really lovely called Ashleigh was very apologetic not her fault but nice manners. I see a previous review says the food took a long time which is correct and the reply was appalling thats not how you reply to paying customers and you will lose service that way. Wont be coming here again...

Went in yesterday with my partner the new refurb is brilliant ordered the ham and cheese panini and and I had pulled chicken and crispy bacon wrap took one bite and noticed a long hair in the wrap called the young guy over and told him he took it away few moment later he came back and said the chef will prepare me a new one but can't see how the hair got in the food coz all the kitchen staff were bald i said I wasn't gonnA put it in there myself and so he went away and I saw from the table I was sat on was that he was telling the girls behind the bar they were lookin over laughing which I didn't find funny I felt really uncomfortable one member of staff was clearly slouching on her phone the girls and the young lad kept on going in the kitchen and coming back out again staring away quite rude to say I felt uncomfortable the wrap came and it was lovely me n my partner also got a free drink which was nice but purely co of how the staff made me feel I won't...
