I had an absolutely awful experience at Chicken Cottage Cambridge today. We spent nearly £50 on food, expecting a decent meal, but what we received was shocking.
First, my brother ordered chicken and rice at the counter, but instead, he was served a poorly cooked, tasteless wrap. When we politely informed the staff that this was not what we ordered, the response was extremely rude and dismissive. Instead of correcting their mistake, the staff completely rejected our words in a very disrespectful manner.
Next, we ordered two whole grilled chicken meals and some additional items. The food was prepared in an unprofessional and unhygienic way, clearly lacking proper cooking skills. My brother asked to speak with the manager, but the person in charge arrogantly claimed to be both the manager and the boss, refusing to acknowledge any complaints.
To make matters worse, another staff member, a man in a white shirt, came from the kitchen and started arguing with us aggressively. His attitude was completely unacceptable, and I was left wondering who these people were and where the actual owner was—probably asleep, ignoring how his restaurant is being run!
The situation escalated to the point where it felt like they were ready to physically fight us instead of resolving the issue. When I asked the man in the white shirt who he was, he arrogantly replied, "I am the chef here." I was even more shocked—how can the so-called chef, who doesn’t even know how to prepare food properly, behave this way instead of addressing the complaints?
Instead of owning up to their mistakes and fixing the issue, both of them wasted 15 minutes arguing with us aggressively. This is not the first time we’ve had bad service at this place, but today was by far the worst experience. I was on the verge of calling the police, but I held back.
Their attitude made us feel like we were eating for free instead of paying customers. There are so many restaurants in Cambridge with better food, better service, and better hygiene. I will never recommend this place to anyone. If you value good food, hygiene, and respectful service, avoid this place...
Read moreDisgusting premises. This is what all of us neighbours have to put up with. Rubbish overflowing and blowing about. Pouring fat down the carpark drains and blocking the sewerage systems causing the car park to flood. Anglian water came out once to jet a fat berg for us but they just carried on and it blocked straight up again. Disgraceful and disgusting. I hate to think about the state of the kitchen.
Update: in response to the owners reply, this absolutely is their premises - they are their bins to the rear of their Mill Road unit 83A Mill Road! After I posted the review the mess was also cleared up - after being a total mess for years. I am shocked that the owner has implied these are false images. Unless Chicken Cottage keep this area clean and to a standard expected of an eating establishment I will continue to post factual reviews. I have already walked passed the bins through the alley and into the back of their kitchen once (this morning) and I will do so again and discuss this in person with their manager if needed. I will also be reporting the establishment to Environmental Health at Cambridge City...

Not only do they NOT DELIVER MY FOOD WHICH I PAID NEARLY 30 POUNDS FOR, THEY MARKED MY ORDER AS DELIVERED TWO HOURS AFTER THE DELIVERY TIME.
Of course nobody answering the phone at one minute past closing (even when they have outstanding orders).
I called FIVE times and EVERY SINGLE TIME they told me to call back. 'Boss is not here, boss is not here'.
Eventually they told me to call JustEat because apprently it's their problem. JustEat had to call this laughing stock of a food shack and whoever they got through to just bare-face LIED to the representative.
They told JustEat that my order had been delieved (Funny because I sure don't remember getting the food that I paid for). Now JustEat has agreed to refund me on the restaurant's behalf.
Wish a negative rating system was in place, because these guys deserve -5 on all categories.
