La Maison Du Steak on 125 Hills Road in Cambridge has become my go-to destination for an exceptional steak experience. My initial visit had a minor hiccup, as my ribeye arrived overcooked. However, the attentive staff promptly addressed the issue, replacing it with a perfectly cooked steak. Their commitment to customer satisfaction left a positive impression and encouraged me to return again and again.
On subsequent visits, I often ordered the medium-rare ribeye, and each time, it was cooked to perfection. The steak was tender, juicy, and flavorful, truly melting in my mouth. The quality of the meat is evident from the moment you enter the restaurant, with a display freezer showcasing a variety of cuts, underscoring their dedication to excellence.
The ambiance at La Maison Du Steak is both cozy and inviting, with a stylish yet traditional interior that enhances the dining experience. The wooden tables contribute to an authentic steakhouse atmosphere, making it an ideal setting for both casual and special occasions. The staff are friendly and efficient, ensuring that each visit is pleasant and memorable.
Beyond their exceptional steaks, the menu offers a diverse selection of dishes, including burgers, briskets, rotisserie chickens, and lamb shanks, catering to a variety of tastes. Vegetarian options, such as tofu and a Portobello mushroom burger, are also available, demonstrating their commitment to accommodating all guests.
The side dishes complement the main courses beautifully. The chips are particularly noteworthy, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, pairing perfectly with the succulent steaks. The salads are fresh and well-prepared, adding a refreshing balance to the meal. Additionally, the mac and cheese is a comforting and indulgent option, especially enjoyable during the colder months.
La Maison Du Steak also supports local businesses by offering beverages from local breweries, such as Calverley’s, enhancing the dining experience with quality local drinks. This attention to detail and community involvement further elevates the restaurant’s appeal.
In terms of value I have found that this restaurant truly offers competitive pricing for the quality and portion sizes provided. For example, their 35-day aged, Himalayan salt-dried tomahawk steak was priced at £49 for 950g last time I checked which is reasonable compared to similar offerings in the city. I have also tried steak at Mina’s steakhouse, flat iron and several other places but none of them compare.
In conclusion, La Maison Du Steak has consistently provided exceptional dining experiences, from the quality of the food to the attentive service and inviting atmosphere. Despite the initial overcooked steak, their prompt resolution and subsequent flawless meals have solidified my loyalty. I highly recommend La Maison Du Steak to anyone seeking a top-tier steakhouse experience...
Read moreI am sorry to write something so negative; however, I am very disappointed with the service we received at the restaurant and the last time this happened two months ago, I let it slip by.
I am a long-time customer who has brought over thirty people to La Maison, and all the people I have brought are big spenders. We have made orders from this place for over three hundred and fifty GBP during Christmas holiday and I have never left the place without gladly paying over one hundred GBP. The least I would expect is an honest and polite service.
Yesterday, I went with a close friend of mine, which proved to be the last time I ever set foot in that restaurant.
We were first seated at a table. I tried ordering a Sanpellegrino Limonata. I ended up receiving sparkling water, so I kindly clarified that I wanted a Limonata, but received a 7UP. This is fine; we all make mistakes and have tiring days. So I went myself to get the Limonata.
The real problem came after we ordered our steaks. We put the order 15 minutes after arriving when there were fewer tables on our floor that were full. After half an hour, all the restaurant was packed, and all the new customers were served their steaks before us. It took one hour and ten minutes for the food to arrive, which I can understand, due to the restaurant being busy.
What was appalling was that a few minutes after we finished our steaks, we got the bill, and a waiter asked us to pay and leave. She already acknowledged that we were upset with the service but added the hefty service charge and never left me the chance to kindly tell her that I was not going to pay it.
I kindly asked her that we come here to have tiramisu as well and that we would like to have some desserts. She ignored my request saying that it was too late and that we would have to vacate the table for other people. She then brought the card machine to make us pay the one-hundred and five GPB bill.
I was disgusted by this and told my friend how disappointing this felt. My friend had just finished his quarantine after returning from abroad, and this was the first place we wanted to celebrate our reunion at - they flipped the entire good vibe of our night to a bad one.
Anyone reading this would probably not accept this on themselves so why should I when I was a loyal customer who literally introduced most of my friends to this place?
I believe some notes on hospitality should be learned from the Cambridge Chophouse, which is light years ahead when it comes to good service and friendly staff. Please tell the people that represent your place to just be kind, honest and friendly -...
Read moreFirst, I think their portion is very generous with both starter and the main meal. For whoever reading this before going to the restaurant, I strongly recommend 3ish people order one starter. Otherwise, you will feel full before eating the big portion of steak.
I personally think that the kitchen tends to overcook the meat. If you prefer the rare-medium kind of steak, this might be a bit more cooked than you think. However, the quality of the meat is not bad. And the sauces are my favourite, garlic butter is good but Green Pepper is something amazing that I would recommend people try. Chips and sweet potatoes are good as well.
The general waiting time is long. Maybe because it is Saturday and the kitchen is busy but I do think my party waited a long time for the food to come. So bear that in mind when you come visit. My waiter is friendly and respond to my request fairly quickly, which I am quite satisfied with.
I booked a seat about 2 hours before coming to the restaurant on the Saturday evening which I am quite happy with, as majority of the restaurant is so fully booked. I ended up in the back garden in a very good weather day. I do think the front garden gets more sun if that is something you are looking for.
In general, I do think the price tag is bit higher than expected. However, not a bad place to dine. I personally would not come back as the food tasting is not that impressive (at this price range, I expect a lot more than this). However, if you want to take your date for a fancy but casual dinner, or want a high price tag to impress a friend or family, this might be a good choice without needing to book a...
