On arrival we sat outside to enjoy a drink whilst waiting for the rest of our party, to celebrate 2 birthdays. While outside the atmosphere was lovely and the aromas from the kitchen were divine, I couldn't wait to eat my meal. 10 minutes late to be seated at our table, then the fun began! Firstly I nearly ended up wearing my drink as the table was terribly sloped and the glass slid to fall off. Thankfully my lightening speed reactions saved me from being soaked and stopped me from stinking like a cider factory had exploded on me or people thinking my new signature perfume was Eau de Rotting Orchard!

The place was almost empty and our party of 10 ordered, the menu was fairly over priced for the offerings however, it was birthday celebrations so we rolled with it. 4/10 of us ordered steaks of some sort. 3 of us had to send them back having ordered medium to well to have them served rare, the T bone steak was so thin it was probably only shown to the frying pan it was overcooked and dry.

While everyone else was tucking in, one of the party had a disaster of her meal, fish & chips, which actually looked very tasty, sliding off the sloping table smothering the floor, yet another meal needing replacing! we patiently waited for our steaks to be redone, when they eventually came back out the peppercorn sauce was missing off 2 of them and the mixed grill steak came back still rare and had to be sent back to the kitchen once again. The bar for last orders was 8.30 which wasn't a problem, however having staff come back over so late after all the chaos of our meal service, offering desserts was a problem, especially as we wouldn't have been able to have a drink to wash it down with. The service was met with an apology and no offer of a good will gesture, complaining a little more saw 5% refund on 1/3 of the bill. As a fair minded reviewer on this occasion i will definitely say I will not go ...

We decided to visit Podge and Tin for some late lunch on Valentines day as we had another appointment in Cannock later in the afternoon.

I'd never heard of the place but my partner told me she'd heard good reviews so we decided to give it a try.

On arrival, the building isn't spectacular. It's well presented but appears to be dropped or squeezed at the side of a roundabout. I'm sure the building was here first but those that have visited know what I mean. However, this just reiterates how pleasantly surprised I was. More of that to follow.

We were promptly seated and given the menus to peruse. At his point, a large party arrives with one elderly member have some difficulty. Now if the management read this please note that the young staff on duty were polite, compassionate and patient assisting the man and his extended party. They ensured he was comfortable and nothing seemed like too much effort for them. A credit to the business.

Back to the menu. When I saw the relatively modest price for the steak I was sceptical. Cheap and cheerful pubs charge more so what's the catch?!? Either way, I took a gamble and ordered Rubeye and two sides. My partner went for butterfly chicken.

No more than ten minutes later the food arrived. Again I was sceptical.. Why has the food arrived so quickly?!?

Then the shock. The steak was amazing!! Cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. I always opt for Ribeye given the choice as I feel it has the right balance between flavour and texture and this piece, and what a generous size it was, tasted amazing. The small side salad complemented it well and the sides (fries and slaw) were perfect as well.

At this point, I was genuinely expecting the bill to be higher and to be told that I'd been given some "special of the say" steak but nope it was exactly as the menu stated. Genuinely shocked how nice the meal was considering the modest cost.

We'll be back...

Visited here this week when working away, I can honestly say I can't wait to visit again. Independent restaurant servicing locally sourced products. Huge menu with a very varied style of dishes I had the Lamb Shish to start which was tasty with a good level of heat. The fish and chips were insane I went for the large which was huge, would have been better off with the small. Fish was perfect, white flaky Cod and crunchy batter, chips were also super crunchy with a fluffy potato centre.

Great food, good value looking forward to my next visit to try some of their other dishes 😋

Podge and Tin Round Two

Mixed Grill - Sirloin Steak, Chicken Wings, Sauages, and Spice Coated Cod

Side Salad

Loaded Fries - Trufle Oil, Parmesan, Crispy Bacon, and Parsley

I have visited here before and enjoyed it. This time, I wasn't as impressed. The loaded fries were top draw, crispy , and plenty of Parmesan incredibly tasty. The side salad was dressed well, I liked the sundried tomatoes and olives.

The mix grill was expensive for what it was cooked OK but not a great quality, sauages also didn't seem to have much flavour, Chicken Wings did fall of the bone but we're not marinated in the jerk bbq, if they were I couldn't taste it. The cod was really good, though.

I was not disappointed in the food, really, but quality against cost, I don't mind spending money on food but would expect a better quality. This is just my honest feedback, I would still visit again but try something different.

The service was great as it was before the staff were friendly and...

Actually spot on! Dining experience FIVE Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ My Fiancé & I spent our entire morning and afternoon at the Designer Village. On the way back to Nottingham, we Googled the best restaurants in the area and Podge & Tin was our pick. The road entry sucks Shrek balls as it was pretty tough to find/navigate. The restaurant however, very pretty on its exterior with parking aplenty :) We were greeted by kind staff that proceeded to ask us if we had a table reserved. We didn’t and the young lady found us table 17 anyhow. The Podge & Tin menu is pretty well encompassing and we didn’t quite know which to order, The Large or Small Fish n Chips. Our Servers were Harley & Xtina. Both were attentive and friendly, but Harley was str8 up the standout. Super present with a brighter spirit about himself. He was mega helpful and recommended the Small Fish n Chips unless we were eating for 6 lol We were hun to the gry! not having eaten anything in hours after being on our feet scouring the many stores at the Designer Village. We are “slimmer” people with huge appetites wondering if a Large Fish n Chips is the only way to go. Thank Jesus for Podge & Tin’s Harley! The Small portions would feed even larger BMI’s that we couldn’t finish our plates. Thank you sooo much Podge & Tin for sharing your amazing restaurant with us :)
