Food was ok, service was poor at best. We were ignored when we first arrived, with 3 servers walking past and just ignoring us (no "will be with you in a sec". When we were finally seated, they were very pushy to take our order, when we asked for more time the server sighed. When the food arrived it was ok, tasty but nothing you couldn't easily make at home. Throughout out the meal though we could clearly hear the male server (forgot his name but he had dark hair and a beard) berating and bullying the other members of staff. This made me feel really uncomfortable, and got to the point where I wanted to shout at him to stop being so horrendous to everyone. This then obviously annoyed one of the kitchen staff (who weirdly bring the food into the restaurant for the servers to then take to the tables) to just shout the table numbers - not the upmarket way the restaurant is presented. Although our starters were nice, neither main was brilliant. I had the smallest duck breast ever, that was overcooked and tough, definitely not the pink they advertised. With the smallest pile of potato. It also doesn't come with veg, so you have to spend even more on a veg side (tomato and shallot salad is just a ropey tomato cut in slices with a few pieces of shallots on the top). My boyfriend's ribeye was more well done than medium, and was obviously a poor cut of meat. Again the French beans had seen better days. They then didn't bring my second drink when I asked for one (but tried to charge for it) and we had to ask 3 times for tap water (which comes in such a small jug it only does 2 glasses). Finally (after a 10 minute wait) they bring the bill over with a 12 5% "optional" tip on it. I don't like paying a tip on card, and really didn't think they gave good service (I was so annoyed at the man I was tempted not to leave any tip). He came over to take payment and assumed I wanted to pay the "optional' tip. When I said can I just pay the £60, he had a major hump. So really not impressed, you can't serve incorrect food at those prices coupled with bad service and expect a good tip. £60 for 2 starters and mains and 2 drinks is ridiculous, really wish we'd gone...
Read moreIn Canterbury for the day, and came across Cote. Restaurant was quiet initially but fairly busy by 20.00 Arrived, greeted politely, and shown to table. Although a table of 4 came in after us, their order was taken before ours - even though we had not looked at menus for several minutes. Food service was fairly slow for this type of restaurant, so much so my Bourguignon was McD hot (potatoes was much hotter) whilst my partner's steak was not even warm. The waiter Sepehr gave his apologies and insisted he replace both meals - excellent service by him. The replacements arrived - both much hotter than before. Unfortunately, the steak was "chewey". My partner didn't want to make a fuss, so she finished the meal. We asked for the bill, which was presented - at the payment point asked if the 2nd meal was better. He was told it was not as good as usual - so he offered us free coffee, which we accepted. A negativesl apart from the food temperature and the steak being not to their usual standard, the manager Alin never came near us. Sepehr was brilliant, but Alin, as the manager let the side down. Upon leaving the restaurant I approached Alin and told he how good Sepehr had been but disappointed by his management style - he claimed he was unaware of my complaint! Sorry, poor management again - it is his job to know what is going on in his restaurant and where his profit is going! Other comments: Toilets are 2 floors up - I would hate to have a mobility problem. Asked another member of staff about this and her response was - "yes, they are a...
Read moreDecided to visit on a late December Sunday for an early dinner. Was lucky enough to have a table for 2 available.
Both of us opted for the 3 course Prix Fixe menu and ordering drinks as well as some water for the table too. Unfortunately the water never arrived after ordering.
When the starters came out they had mistakenly brought out a dish that we had not ordered but this was very quickly corrected and the right starter was presented.
I had opted to upgrade my steak to a steak deluxe (which I believe is a larger size, triple cooked chips rather than fries and Cafe de Paris butter). Unfortunately once again something had been forgotten from this course too with the Cafe de Paris butter not given. My partner had made the front of house team aware of this immediately but by the time it had been brought out I had made my way through the majority of my food, I did try the butter but unfortunately it was ice cold and was now not enjoyable with my now cooled remainder of steak. Not a big issue but when you pay to upgrade and it isn't delivered to start with and then delivered too late and ice cold it isn't that appealing.
Both desserts we had ordered were perfect and enjoyed immensely. Service speed was lacking slightly and by the time we had got to the end of the meal the restaurant was mostly empty (before the storm of the evening was mentioned a lot by one server)
Overall food was excellent as always but multiple mistakes were made which did let down the experience on...
