Really amazing little place tucked in a side street leading to the cathedral, They really helped me out in a bind when i needed to book somewhere dog friendly for my family on a Saturday. My family had come up for my wedding and due to a last minute issue with accommodation they had to bring the dogs along. The staff at the Shakespeare were amazingly helpful and went out of their way to sort us out on a busy weekend day. They even bought over some treats and water bowls for our two dogs which was very kind. The food tasted amazing, we had a mixture of things, I had fish and chips and the fish was cooked perfectly and everyone else had empty plates so a good job all round! Alas couldn’t stay for pudding as they had to leave the car park but I’ll definitely be coming back to make up for that at a later date! :) Sorry it took me ages (18th June!) to write anything but i unfortunately caught the dreaded Covid the week after and have only just recovered! At least it wasn’t the week of my wedding! Silver linings and all that! Summary ! Great place, great food , amazing staff and...
Read moreI reviewed the Shakespeare as a 5* seven years ago, unfortunately how times have changed
One of my party was coeliac but the kitchen could not confirm that anything on the menu was gluten free. To ensure they had the meal they could eat, they. NB: there were 20 people in our part, and all bar my one friend with coeliac disease purchased food from the Shakespeare.
This was very, very disappointing.
I would suggest to Shepherd Neame, that they review their menu and ensure that they have suitable food for any palette and if they cannot accommodate a food intolerance, enable a customer to bring their own food with them.
I will not...
Read moreThis place was recommended to us, so we thought we'd try it out. For starters, I had their humus and flat bread, while my partner had the scotch egg, both amazing. For mains we both had the hanging skewers (one halloumi, one chicken) on dirty fries, they were beautifully presented and tasted even better. The food was incredible (Thank you Harry). The service from Meg was perfect, she was friendly and extremely helpful especially when the menu choice I'd asked for (the halloumi) was sold out (I'm sure she sent someone out to buy the missing ingredient) so I got the meal I'd hoped for. The other members of staff were great too. We'd both highly recommend this place, both agreeing that it was the best food we'd eaten in Canterbury in years. Well worth a...
