This was our first visit to a post-lockdown eatery, albeit takeaway. We tried to order using the app as there were three other groups of patrons queuing outside the shop, but a poor mobile signal scuppered that attempt. We resigned ourself to queuing, but by this time there was no-one waiting, hopefully a sign of quick service!
My daughter and I entered the shop (only one group at a time) and headed to the counter. Our order was taken quickly, contactless payment followed and soon we had a receipt in our hand confirming our order number. We headed back outside to the designated collection area and waited for our number to be called. Five or six minutes later or order arrived, hot and correct.
We ended up eating our lunch on the steps outside the Marlowe Theatre. Despite the wind, which seemed to time its blowing with our mealtime, we enjoyed our burgers. We all had varying orders, and we'd all forgotten how big they were! They were soon dispatched but we struggled with the two orders of fries shared between the four of us.
Five Guys is not the cheapest burger and fries, but you get a lot for your money. Paying the same price as an eat-in meal is a bit cheeky, but I guess at the time every restaurant and takeaway is just...
Read moreThe food is great, nice chips and tasty burgers with huge portions. However, the Canterbury branch is badly designed- not many seats and most of them are high seats that are screwed to the floor, so if you’re any taller than 6 foot or a big person, good luck sitting comfortably. Also, as with any Five Guys, the prices are disgusting. Burger, chips and drink for 3 came to over 40 quid, in fact one us didn’t have a burger they had a grilled cheese sandwich (which is literally a burger bun with plastic cheese on...) This is questionable considering their business model is such that it should save money- I.e. only one size drink cups, fries being thrown in a bag rather than individual size cups, everything put in a brown bag, no table service, basic menu in general. It’s probably only a little bit better than Burger King in terms of taste, but it’s only cooked fresh. I’d love to come here more, but the prices are a joke, especially when it’s half the price comparatively in the USA.
However, if you have the money, it’s still good food and the people working at this one are efficient and personable. It’s just the entire business model that...
Read moreFirst time going to a Five Guys. I like to think I've had some good burgers in my time and this definitely ranks up there. I don't know if it was that the meat was really good, it was cooked to perfection, that you get to customise the burger however you want, the really great staff or what (probably all of the above) but it was really really worth the extra money. Way more pricey than I was expecting for a fast food joint but then this isn't fast food sort of food. Way better than GBK. Will definitely be back soon 😋 oh wait... I forgot about the fries! Every single one (and there were lots, one portion for two people easily), every single one was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the...
