Just watching a PL match this morning from our home in Oregon, US. It took us back to our introduction to The Penny Theatre and many evenings having delicious meals, great beer and cider, and learning about PL football. We lived on Northgate for two months in early 2016 - our first extended visit to the UK. We trudged into The Penny Theatre after a 20-hour day of travel. The pub was 50 yards from our flat and the first place we found. We were exhausted, very hungry and a bit grumpy, so we weren't going to be picky. What a surprise! Our server was friendly, helpful and very forgiving of our initial crankiness. In short order we were warm, enjoying a delicious meal and feeling the love of Penny Theatre. It quickly became our neighborhood pub where we were welcomed by name and always enjoyed the food, beverage options and friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to returning to our pub home next time we're in town.

Booked Bottomless Brunch for a Hen Party of 17 people. Vickie was very helpful with the booking beforehand as we had a few non-drinkers and these guests were able to order from the main menu no problems. I emailed our pre-order beforehand which was not a requirement but definitely recommend doing for a bigger booking. Honestly, the BEST bottomless brunch I have ever been to. We all upgraded to the extra drinks option which was so worth it. Ellie was superb , came to the table taking a drinks order every 15-20 minutes!! 2 bottles of prosecco and flutes also served with our mains which was an included bonus! Such good value for money and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The only negative - unfortunately one main meal was missed and only came out when other people's plates were being cleared away, the cost of this was taken off the bill after requesting this though. REMEMBER cash for a tip!!

So for the first time in a few years I went to The Penny Theatre for a burger and to watch the footy. It used to be my regular pub for student nights and football at the weekend so I was interested in seeing what it was like now. As with all pubs, the price of food there has gone up, however the menu has also evolved... in a student way. As you can see from the photo of the burger I ordered, the Double Decker is set for heart attack. Despite its cheese drenched look, it was surprisingly good. It was definitely a burger up to the task of keeping you full for the rest of the day. The atmosphere was as good as ever but I would suggest getting there early if going for a sporting event as we saw a lot of people come in search for seating only to be disappointed. The Penny Theatre is still a great pub and I will definitely be going back soon.

This is true, we were tried to be move three times before the allocated booking time, twice by staff and once by the guests. We were told to leave 10mins before the booking. The table was booked for 7pm yet we were told to leave the table before this time. As you state we left 2mins before the time was due, which is within our rights as paying customers (no longer). Wait to clear up? It was a tiny table and would not have taken 15mins to clean as per your staff member.

Find it funny you were shocked for people who booked the table for 7pm got their table at 7pm. You need to sort the way your staff handle customers.

Edit from your reply: we were told by staff it was policy to leave the table 15mins before booking for cleaning, this was not shown anywhere, if this is policy then that's your issue with how you time bookings. The table was booked for 7pm we were approached about 6:45 that we need to leave there table in 5mins, the guest then came to us asking to move at 10 to 7 BEFORE the 7pm booking. As stated your guest got the table at 7pm. I know the times as checked my phone when this happened.

And yes we found a much better place with friendly staff for our evening and will pass on how unwelcoming your staff and the venue overall have been after your comments. Happy never to go back.

'Hi Lorena, this isn't true is it. You were not kicked out, you were merely warned to vacate the table. Your partner then refused to leave until the booking start time, and you both left 2 minutes before this booking was due. The staff were not rude, but shocked you thought the guests who had actually booked the table you were sat on should wait for you. Luckily these guests were patient enough to wait to clear up after you. Might we suggest you reserve a...

It's 16 January at dinner time. The penny theatre is the first place I've visited during my journey around London and the near towns, and...what a great beginning! The place has perfectly dimmed lights and the atmosphere is very friendly.

Talking about food, first, as an appetizer, we ordered a bowl of 20 chicken wings and a pair of drinks: a "can-gria" and a red strongbow cider. I love how they presented the can-gria: It is a san pellegrino's can filled to the top with an alcoholic cocktail made of (if I remember it right) orange juice, peach schnapps and wine; it is also topped with some simple but effective gummy sweets. The chicken wings were great, they were cooked perfectly and the quantity over price ratio was incredible: 20 wings for just 6£! They were so delicious that instead of ordering a normal meal as next, we ordered 30 more of those chicken wings. Yes, 30! Obviously matched by another couple of Ciders. ;)

The bartenders at the penny theatre were cheerful and made the atmosphere really friendly while keeping to work professionally. I think that a staff that can put people in comfort is fundamental for making the difference between a normal and a special place where I would return.

A big thank you to Chelsea, to the very gentle cashier who has been patient with my bad spoken english, and to the waitress who followed our table making a careful service.

A group of 12 of us booked to go here yesterday for bottomless brunch. The customer service prior to booking was excellent! The place was recommended to me as I wanted to celebrate my 40th I chose this place. The reviews also looked good. When we arrived we waited 20 minutes for our first drink, then noticed that the service for drinks was extremely slow throughout our two hour time slot. A few of us sat with empty glasses for a while and some of us even went to the bar to ask for another drink. Our waitress was busy and told us she would come over, again we waited so long. She recognised this and brought two bottles over to apologise stating she knew we hadn’t had the experience we should have had. I feel like, if you know you have bookings for bottomless brunch you need to be staffed appropriately and ensure the customers are getting what they booked and paid for. It put a bit of a dampener on things as this was a special occasion.we even cleared the table after drinks and food as it the dirty plates were just left in front of us even though we asked for them to be cleared . Food was lovely although didn’t have any cutlery straight away and when asked for this, we was informed that cutlery will come when all the meals are out. This made some of the food cold for a few of my friends and I feel this should have been provided...
