I recently had the pleasure of dining at Posillipo in Canterbury and it was a delightful experience. The restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine, accompanied by warm and friendly service. Located in the scenic eastern region of England, it's a true gem for those seeking a taste of Italy.
From the moment I walked in, the Italian waitstaff welcomed me with their characteristic warmth, making the dining experience feel truly authentic. The menu showcases Italian culinary excellence, with a wide variety of dishes to suit all preferences, including vegetarian options. The starters were a perfect introduction to the meal, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented.
The seafood risotto and linguine were the highlights for me. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, with the seafood risotto offering a creamy texture and rich flavors, while the linguine had the perfect al dente consistency. If you're a seafood lover, you must try the options available here. The calzone and seafood pasta also came highly recommended and didn't disappoint.
One impressive aspect of Posillipo is their superb wine selection. The staff provided excellent food and wine pairings, enhancing the flavors of the dishes. The prices for both the food and wine are reasonable, adding great value to the overall dining experience.
The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both casual and special occasions. While the sides were satisfactory, they didn't quite match the high standard of the main dishes.
Overall, my experience at Posillipo was a delightful journey through Italian cuisine. I highly recommend it to anyone in Canterbury looking for an authentic...
Read moreWe had dinner here a couple of weeks ago as a group of four. We ordered a few pasta dishes and a fish dish. The food itself was just alright, but unfortunately the evening was ruined by something completely unacceptable. While eating one of the pasta dishes, we found a large green fly that had been cooked into the pasta. Needless to say, this was very off-putting.
We informed the waitress, who apologised and took the dish back to the kitchen. She came back shortly after to apologise again and confirmed that we wouldn’t be charged for that dish, which we appreciated at first. However, when we received the bill, the only item removed was the pasta with the fly.
Given how unpleasant the experience was, we felt that the restaurant should have done more as a gesture of goodwill. When we raised this, the waitress told us she couldn’t do anything and called the manager. After a long discussion, the manager insisted that he couldn’t take off anything else because we had eaten and drunk the rest. Eventually, he offered a 10% discount and removed the service charge, but this only came after quite a bit of back and forth.
What really left a bad impression was not just the fly itself (which I understand could have been an unfortunate one-off mistake), but the way the situation was handled. Their reaction felt dismissive, as though what happened was within their standards. For me, that’s the most concerning and unacceptable part. Mistakes can happen, but how a restaurant responds to them shows how much they care about their customers. Sadly, in this case, the handling of the issue completely ruined our evening and I cannot...
Read moreUpdate from my previous review (Google doesn’t allow edits to the original):
After I left the restaurant, I realised I’d forgotten my bottle and returned to retrieve it. The owner insisted he didn’t have it. I said I wouldn’t leave until he returned it—which he eventually did, proving he’d had it all along. The lie wasn’t even convincing—just mildly embarrassing.
During this, he mocked the way I speak, claiming I “don’t understand English”—rather rich coming from someone who speaks English with a strong Italian accent. That kind of projection says more about his own insecurity than anything else.
He also asked me if I’d ever heard of karma, which was quite something, coming from an Italian Catholic man trying to lecture me on a religious concept rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism. A bit of spiritual tourism thrown in with the ego, it seems.
To top it off, he made a comment suggesting that if he were me, he wouldn't be walking at this side of the street. I can’t say whether it was meant as a threat or just another display of bravado, but either way, it was inappropriate and unprofessional.
It’s always interesting when someone believes that owning a restaurant—serving food most people can cook at home—somehow entitles them to treat others with disrespect. His behaviour didn’t surprise me; it simply confirmed the lack of integrity I had already experienced.
At the end of the day, some people mistake rudeness for Italian charm—but trust me, there’s nothing charming about arrogance wrapped in...
