Very disappointed with the Hayes we have dinned at miller and carter restaurants in Hereford and thorn hill and have always had an amazing meal with attentive and professional staff. The hayes Cardiff we thought would be the same as the other restaurants in this chain but it wasn’t. Our reservation was at 8:15 we were seated quickly with a friendly front of house waitress, And that’s the only positive I can really say for the whole experience. It took 40 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and food order, if the restaurant was busy then I could understand however there was more empty tables than there was filled ones which on Saturday evening should have been a red flag for us. The drinks came and the rosé wine I had that is being charged over £10 per large glass was warm but as the restaurant was really hot and we had been waiting for ages I sucked it up and drank it :/ 9pm and the lettuce wedges came out but nothing else fast forward to 9:20 and our food arrived so this is a whole hour and 15 minutes again if it was busy we would understand but it wasn’t and the lettuce wedges where warm by this point due to the heat in the restaurant (it was a hot day not really the restaurants fault but should have managed food delivery better so food wasn’t hanging around) the server came and asked if the food was cooked to our liking within seconds of it being placed in front of us before we could even start to eat and as most do said yeah thanks we didn’t see a server again until plates where being cleared away. We had asked for the steaks to be medium rare and out of the 3 steaks only one was close with the rump being well done or tbh grey I’ve had tastier burgers. We had n upgrade on the chips to include chunky chips on one and fries on the other and the chips where horrendous to which they couldn’t be eaten they where so hard we didn’t eat them you could hear them clinking if you tapped them on the plate awful over cooked burnt frozen chips for an extra £1 upgrade it’s disgusting 🤢 the fries weren’t much better no taste and hard and looked like the last out of a frozen bag. We complained to the waitress when she appeared to collect the plates and she instantly went to oh I’ll tell my manager oh what where they cold. The food and drinks came to over £115 which isn’t bargain basement prices but the service and food where on par with a cheaper restaurant, I’ve had nicer food at a weatherspoons. We asked for the bill and we sat waiting for 20minutes until my husband went to look for the server who said oh did you ask for it ? It was after 10 by the time we left. When you don’t have many days out due to work home and children and you have a date night with your husband things like this ruin the whole night we ended up going home earlier than planned as the whole restaurant issues just annoyed us and dampened the whole evening. Extremely dissatisfied with the whole service and will never return. Knocking £5 off...
Read moreI've been here before for an anniversary and it was great so I decided to book for a very special occasion as my graduation meal with all of my family and I'm quite frankly embarrassed at how bad it was and it really tainted such a special occasion. Really disappointed with the food, service and dining area.
We arrived at 7pm for our booking and sat down as usual and ordered drinks and food. Some of us had the special graduation/celebration menu. But it wasn't a celebration at all after what happened. Time kept ticking and I had booked other bars for the evening later on for drinks after. These I had to later cancel as the food took so long to arrive at our table. As I said, we got there for 7 and didn't receive our main course untill 9:30pm. 2.5 hours!! Like, I still can't believe it. We kept asking staff for updates but the food just took ages to arrive. After this, we complained to staff and didn't even bother to stay for our set menu dessert as it was nearly 10pm long past the bar bookings I had planned afterwards. Also, the room was boiling. Everyone was sweating and had to keep going outside to cool off. All that topped up with a half an hour wait for a beer and a £500 bill. Really ruined a really special night for me and my partner graduating university. Even my father, sisters and some other family members had to leave and go back home as it was too late to go to any bars for them as we left at near 10pm without even getting dessert. Even one of our friends had to come into the restaurant to sit with us as we ate our mains as she was waiting around in the town centre since 9pm to go to a bar as we had all arranged. My other friends went off to celebrate without me as we took so long to have our meal.
Even after waiting so long for the food, the steaks were cooked to the wrong rarity for some of my guests and some steak side options were also wrong but at this point we were so hot and bothered by the boiling atmosphere and hungry that we could not be bothered to send it back. Most of my guests left half of their meal and now I will be embarrassed when I next see them because I definitely know that will be the first thing we bring up after a dreadful expensive experience which is supposed to be luxury. This is definitely the worst experience I've had in a restaurant ever and just had to be on a day which was supposed to be a celebration.
I would like a refund for this meal and experience which I will now always remember as it was on the day I...
Read moreCalled in here on the way to seeing a show in the Bay as my wife had always wanted to visit. Great restaurant, lovely layout and good service from the off but this was let down by the food to be honest. We were talked through the menu as usual, and drinks were ordered and delivered promptly and happily from a friendly waitress.
I opted for the scallops and pork belly starter with my wife and son having the prawn cocktail. The scallops are pretty small as per the image, and as a result a couple were overcooked. I'd rather have 3 large scallops cooked to perfection than 5 which are not. Pork was delicious though but the scallops made me a bit sad. Prawn cocktails were fine, nothing special and maybe the king prawns slightly too cold as it changes the flavour but you know what you're getting. Pay attention to washing lettuce as bugs on the plate afterwards crawling around is not acceptable really.
For mains, I went for the lamb rump, with my wife having the sirloin and son going for the fillet mignon. No real complaints about the lamb, tasty enough although could have done with being rested a bit more, as blood on the plate tends to indicate it needed a little longer. The red wine jus was also a little sweet for my taste, something to bear in mind. The sirloin was all fine, my wife enjoyed and it was well cooked but to be honest the lettuce "wedge" with store bought crispy onion and sweet chilli sauce topping is a bit of a cop out! Felt like Harvester vibes from yesteryear with a cheap salad bowl on the side. My son's fillet mignon was very disappointing. I would say leaning towards more of rare than medium rare and to be honest was more chewy than I would expect from this cut. We eat a lot of steak and he knows what he likes, and he was very let down, which was a real shame.
Had we not been rushing to get to the show on time, we would have made more of this with the restaurant but as it was we just decided to leave it - but I have fed back to them since. I wouldn't rush back, not being a regular to the M&C chain I'm not sure what to expect from others, but this was "okay" considering the price you pay for this kind of Steak House - to be honest, if I'm in Cardiff then Pasture is way better for steaks but that's...
