bb’s — Restaurant in Chelmsford

My family and I took a friend, who was visiting for the day, out to lunch. We chose bb’s and really pleased we did. The man who served us (I think must have been the manager) was very welcoming and helpful. He was very patient as my dad and our friend are pensioners and it took some time to work out what we were going to have. I was very grateful for that 😉😁. The food was lovely and just perfect for what we were looking for. Our friend had a ham salad baguette freshly made and packed full. So much that she took half home for her dinner 😆 and the staff very kindly gave me a takeaway container! My daughter and I loved our strawberry lemonade too. The store was clean and tidy and welcoming and would definitely visit again. It was lovely to sit outside by the river as well. The only thing I would add is that some of the chairs were very wet from a short downpour so it may be worth either tipping them when it rains or giving them a quick wipe down after the shower has finished 😉. Great little restaurant since it was upgraded. On a summer's day the outside area is perfect for a quick cake stop. The inside is not always the cleanest and the staff should put more measures in place to ensure that the cleanliness is checked often. I have also noticed how the staff always seem stressed and over worked lately. I visited a week ago and they had no gluten free muffins and no-one seemed to know who was responsible for this. Visiting today was slightly disappointing as there were only two options of gluten free which looked quite dry. BB's is the kind of place where some days you visit and it is amazing and you walk away feeling satisfied. Other days they are under staffed and struggling. Haven't been to Bb's for a few months but went today. Was tottaly shocked at how it has deteriorated since I last went. The staff were obviously busy and tried their best to keep up with the stream of visiting customers, however the tables were not being wiped, the floor was dirty and orders were coming out but the poor girl who was running about trying to find who the food was for had no success as apparently they don't use the table number markers anymore. In fact when my husband went to order coffee he was asked for his name but the chap who was serving couldn't understand him and apologised as his English wasn't very good.
