17 family members booked this hotel for January 2023 beginning of August. Yesterday a few got notifications of the booking being cancelled. My husband went to the hotel, the car park had about 20 young kids playing cricket and there were other people repairing push bikes etc. He asked about the cancellation and was told it was due to the hotel now having ‘Long term guests my husband said refuges then, judging by the car park ’. This was not denied by the receptionist. This would not be a problem to us albeit an inconvenience rebooking another hotel.||||The problem is when I phoned this morning and asked the receptionist, what I was told was far from truthful. She told me the bookings had been cancelled due to over running building work, when I mentioned the conversation my husband had the previous evening, she completely denied that they had long term guests and it was just because of the building work. ||I could clearly hear many people in the background, including a child crying loudly, when I enquired about this I was told what I could hear was her manager talking to the maintenance man, I asked if the maintenance man was a child, she completely denied there were any children , as she said ‘in her reception’. I said I know what a child crying sounds like and you clearly have a child in your reception. The receptionist continued to deny there was anyone staying at the hotel and it was and I quote ‘cancelled due to over running drilling works.||||With this level of lies, how can you trust this sort of hotel chain. ||Tell the truth for goodness sake, you may have something going on, we know you have bricks outside and a cover on the front of your building, but don’t blatantly lie to people.||||Do yourself a favour if you are looking to book the premier Inn is much cheaper and closer to town and at least you won’t be cancelled...
Read moreGreat size TV and beds in the standard rooms, Warm enough.
Ended up using my phone as a hotspot as Chelmsford is now running a 5G network and the basic speed I received on the phone was 18x faster than the inadequate Hotel WiFi.
Back and side of the TV was covered in dust and it's clear the cleaners don't don't go anywhere near it, neither of the bed side lights worked, the towel rail behind the bath was dangling precariously over your head whilst having a bath, barely held on, probably why the towels were on the unit behind the toilet when I first entered the room.
I can't comment about the restaurant as the only time i used it was on the first night having arrived to the hotel late. Being the only person in there at 8.50pm I got what I expected really. It did a job.
I would stay here again despite my critiques, the staff on reception where both cheerful and helpful. Maybe I'll go up a standard in...
Read moreSigh. Stayed in an executive room following a stint of bad experiences in other hotels standards rooms during COVID. Really nice decor, very slick. All show. Windows are poorly insulated so it sounds as though the window is open - when on the ground floor ask for a room not directly next to the car park! Room walls very thin - can hear other guests conversations and them using their bathrooms. Air circulation was clearly an after thought - with a ghastly air cooler/heater that is as loud as a truck’s engine! The window issue above means the room got cold quick. Bathroom was also cold as no radiator installed in there either.
Also no charging points around the bed. This is such a standard requirement in today’s world. Expected a lot more basics for an executive room. 2 stars rather than 1...
