Christmas Day Lunch 2023! I was determined to treat my daughter and myself to Christmas Day Lunch because she had a very traumatic experience January '23, and my oven decided to die last Christmas Day, so no turkey and trimmings for us! 14.40: We arrived at The Langton for our 14.45 sitting. We walked around to the reception area (quite a distance from the front entrance) There were two women, I recognised one, I met her the day in November when I paid a deposit, and never heard from her again until I contacted the pub (yes, it's a gastro pub) We were ignored, no acknowledgement, though they both saw us standing there. Poor start! We did not try to engage. A waitress wearing glasses, was very brusque, and said "I thought you were leaving, believe me,that's what we should have done, but I had no plan B. We clarified our status and she pointed us back to the 2 managers."Our system is down, said the blonde manager (she didn't introduce herself) " (white shirt) "go to the bar area, I will come and find you!" 14.50: there were at least 10 guests waiting at the bar, there was 1 barman and lots of dirty glasses. We were supposed to have a complimentary drink on arrival, but that didn't happen. The young man, Rory? appeared very calm and did a great job on his own, I told him that when we spoke with him later. His bearded colleague arrived 15mins later, throwing his weight around, very abrupt and rude! 15.15; I made my way back to the "managers", as no one had come to find us, to check progress on our table. "Our system is down, I'm having to input..(harassed,unprofessional manager wearing pretty dress) "Your table in the bar area was ready at 14.45". The right hand, didn't know etc.At this stage, I really wanted to grab my daughter and leave, but I'm a trained nurse, and a professional, so we followed her right around the corner from the bar area to a table for 2 in the corner. The table in front of us had 7 adults, including 3 older people and 1 child, the dad was doing his best to keep her occupied, because they were waiting for their meals.15:50; the appetiser arrived,(no comment)17:25; The main turkey meal was served with a small bowl of overcooked sprouts, and other veg crammed in, we had to share that. There was not enough staff throughout, our waitress was covering 4 tables. (yes, I'm sure that is "normal for her") unacceptable in my book. The fact that "your system failed, and the service was so bad, every guest should have been offered a complimentary drink that we were promised on booking. I have noted that the owner of The Langton/Langton team, only reply to positive reviews. I expect a reply to my review, or I will be speaking with the Gloucestershire Echo/Cheltenham News! My daughter and I have dined out on Christmas Day numerous times, having saved our hard earned money for the big day, and never had such a negative experience. My daughter had been on duty at King's College Hospital, London, until Christmas Eve, and was tired. I will never set foot in The Langton ever again, and I'm still apologising to my girl, because I made that disastrous decision to eat there at our favourite time of the year! Christmas š
Update: 9 Jan '24 I have not been contacted by The Langton, so I have contacted the Gloucestershire Echo and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSpoilt Christmas Day! We eat as a family and separately a few times a month. We paid for the extra special menu for Christmas Day at Ā£105 per person. We were not greeted on arrival. Ignored for 10 minutes then pointed in the direction of our table. A further 20 minutes of being ignored, my daughter went to speak to a member of staff, who dismissed her and said their systems were down and someone would be with us shortly. Another 10 minutes and still no drinks, my son went to speak to someone, he was dismissed and the staff were not interested. I went to speak to two managers to be told the systems are down. I explained we had been here for 50 minutes and we still didnāt have a drink or any food. All of which had to be pre ordered. Finally a waiter who was as miserable as sin, came to the table. Two of our table were not there and I asked him to come back to take their order which he did not. Our drinks arrived, most of them were incorrect. Another waitress came who was equally not bothered. After 1 hr. We had drinks we didnāt order or want and 2 people still didnāt have a drink. Then the starters came and my son who can not eat certain things and it was pre agreed what he would have and made clear on what is is not able to eat as it makes him Iāll at the time of booking. We were told they werenāt aware. I gave him back the starter and asked him if he would like to see the email that was sent to the restaurant with our order and he said no. My son had his starter after we finished. They brought someone elseās main to our table and said it didnāt matter as it just meant there were no sausages as the order said no pork. I explained to him then that is someone elseās meal and not on this table. Again the eye rolling! My son had steak as he was not able to eat anything off the menu, the waiter was not aware and went to speak with the chef. He then came to ask about allergies. My sons steak came when we had nearly finished our meal. We asked for more veg as we had one lot of veg between 8 of us and never got it. We had random waiters and waitresses. Coming to the table with food and drinks we had not ordered. The deserts were fine. We ordered our after dinner drinks. They took so long that 5 p people left. It was probably for the best as they got the drink order wrong. And brought 2 cocktails and a coffee! We gave up the will to live by this point. The food was good, the atmosphere was dreadful and the service was the worst any of us had ever had. The only thing extra special we received was an extra special diabolical service! No apology apart from the waitress at the end who was more interested in moaning about being at work since 10am. A very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIād wanted to dine at the Langton for a long time so decided to book a table to celebrate my 30th birthday for around 12 of us. I felt disappointed as no one made reference to the fact it was my birthday and the staff didnāt seem overly friendly or knowledgeable.
My partner informed the waitress he had a fish/seafood allergy and said heād be ordering the chicken anyway. However, she still gave him a tablet and told him it would let him know which dishes he could have and then left. But, it was no different to the regular menu, as the options included fish dishes such as a prawn starter and prawn/crab linguine dish?
When drinks were ordered, someone asked for a Malibu and coke to which the waitress was unsure if you served it. So instead we ordered bottles of wine, beers and 2 soft drinks for the children (a coke and a lemonade). When our mains came, no one checked back at the table, mine and my partners half rotisserie chicken was very dry which was disappointing. I left most of the chicken because of this but when my plate was cleared, the waitress made no reference. I was feeling a little let down by the whole experience so far so I decided not to comment as I didnāt see the point.
When weād finished our mains we debated ordered desserts. Some options sounded really nice and Iād been excited to try one. However, after a lack of communication from the waiting staff and already feeling a bit disappointed, we decided to just order desserts for the 2 children and have the birthday cake my partner brought in instead.
My 8 year old niece then said she felt unwell so I moved her drink to pour her some water. When I went to move her drink, I could smell Malibu. There was still some drink in the glass so I tried it and it was indeed, a Malibu and coke. It was then we all realised she had been served Malibu and coke, not a childās coke which we had asked for and what was handed over and stated when given at the table. I honestly couldnāt believe it and do not understand how this mix up had happened.
After speaking to the manager who confirmed it had been put on the bill and was a Malibu and coke, she was apologetic for the mix up and stated that a disciplinary meeting would take place. 20% was taken off the bill but we all left feeling confused, disappointed and underwhelmed by the whole evening and what...
