Just reopened after a long time closed down . Chesterfields most historical pub is well worth a visit. Tucked away in the shambles just to the side of the main market square you will find this Tudor building consisting of two separate bars the main bottom one is now brightly coloured and decorated with pub memorabilia .the new owners are friendly and accommodating,a ample choice of cask, keg,cider and real ales are available.the top bar if you have never been in is a total surprise not clues are given away from the glimpse you get across the bar from the bottom bar .entering to top bar you are faced with a full height exposed Tudor roof a most atmospheric atmosphere.the suit of armour is back the last one disappeared with a previous owner .I haven't tried the food yet but it looks good . Read moreLovely pub. My partner and I went there. I tried the 'Moo-Milk' which was lovely. Chocolate and Vanilla Stout?? Not something you think would go together but yes loved it. Then we had Pie n mash each. She had the Fungi Chicken which she said didn't have much chicken in it, and I ended up with the Mother ship. I'd added for the Moo Blue but they didn't have that. So it was the Mothership. Lovely pie but scarce amount of mash was the only criticism I could level. Another good big spoonful would have been great but the pie was great.
