Just reopened after a long time closed down . Chesterfields most historical pub is well worth a visit. Tucked away in the shambles just to the side of the main market square you will find this Tudor building consisting of two separate bars the main bottom one is now brightly coloured and decorated with pub memorabilia .the new owners are friendly and accommodating,a ample choice of cask, keg, cider and real ales are available.the top bar if you have never been in is a total surprise not clues are given away from the glimpse you get across the bar from the bottom bar .entering to top bar you are faced with a full height exposed Tudor roof a most atmospheric atmosphere.the suit of armour is back the last one disappeared with a previous owner .I haven't tried the food yet but it looks good . It's well worth a look and I wish all the best to the current guardians of this wonderful building.

Amazing old pub in the centre of Chesterfield. Recently purchased and sympathetically refurbished by Meg and Patrick. The pub serves top class real ales from across the region and further a field, a great choice of ciders and organic wine. To accompany the great selection of drinks there is a selection freshly baked “Pie minster pies and excellent bar snacks. If you enjoy a good quiz, Patrick hosts a fun, and thought provoking quiz every Tuesday. A newly installed dart board is there for fans of the sport, folk music afternoons on Sundays and a collection of board games to keep customers entertained. We enjoyed a great quiz night enjoying a selection of the real ales.

Chesterfield's oldest pub is back open! A beautiful building with a rich history. The new landlords, Meg & Patrick, have worked magic on this beloved place. Now a free house, they've curated the best cask line up in town. And they say the casks will keep changing. Can't wait to pop back in to try something new! Piminister pies were excellent. Highly recommend 'The Mothership' option. Prices excellent. Staff brilliant. Ales local.

Lovely pub. My partner and I went there. I tried the 'Moo-Milk' which was lovely. Chocolate and Vanilla Stout?? Not something you think would go together but yes loved it. Then we had Pie n mash each. She had the Fungi Chicken which she said didn't have much chicken in it, and I ended up with the Mother ship. I'd added for the Moo Blue but they didn't have that. So it was the Mothership. Lovely pie but scarce amount of mash was the only criticism I could level. Another good big spoonful would have been great but the pie was great. It has mushy peas on top then that was topped with crispy onions...yum!! Lovely atmosphere and the lady serving...
