I decided to visit Petworth for afternoon tea yesterday with my elderly aunt who was over from the US on a family visit. We had tried to get a seat in a more traditional tear room to no available, and so thought we would try Cherries. We found a table but it had not been cleared. It seemed other people who arrived before us had piled up their uncleared crockery onto the last empty table left! After a 10 minute wait the table was cleared. We were told we needed to place our order at the deli counter in the next room. After another 20 minute wait (due to just one person serving) we were told that coffee and a cake would take around 45 minutes to serve. By this time it was 3.00pm and my aunt was really hungry so we decided to leave and make a cup of tea at home. I don't know how a business can survive with just 2 members of staff on a Saturday. The tables weren't being cleared, they had one girl taking orders, processing payment and making all the food whilst the other was making drinks.
