Booked to have afternoon tea in the restaurant and the whole experience was amazing. We were met by a lovely lady with a beautiful smile, unfortunately I didn't get her name, and promptly shown to our table. The sandwiches were delicious, there were about 6 fingers with various flavours, various cakes and 4 delicious home made scones that were still warm! We were given two cafetiere's of coffee and were topped up when empty! The whole experience is such good value at £20 per person. Would definitely recommend this place for a special treat!

We were in Chichester and decided to visit the Harbour Hotel (formerly called The Ship Hotel) for coffee and bar food early evening on Sunday. The bar area is nicely decorated and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the food and drink were very good. All in all, a nice and relaxing visit. Will visit again one day soon.

Horribly cooked steak (don’t think it was seasoned at all either). Fat wasn’t rendered; had to carve it off the steak just so I could get the knife through. The “luxury” potatoes were bland. The tempura prawns should be renamed beer battered shrimp. The beetroot salad and the service were actually pretty good - hence the second star.

The service is wonderful - we could not fault the front of house team.

The food was terrible - bread served with poor quality olive oil and vinegar… the bread was sliced and not fresh (certainly not ‘artisan’). Starters - prawn cocktail was the out right winner… my smoked salmon was served with 2 small thinnest slices of soda bread I have ever had… butter came in a packet and only after we asked for it. The mains were awful… we sent the soufflé back as it was like an omelette. Only to be told that the chef’s response was “it comes like that”.

We used to dine at the sister restaurants in Christchurch which are infinitely better. This is a very poor relation and we would not go again.

The front of house team were excellent but sadly that doesn’t fill...

Nice looking city hotel, 4 star. Wife and I went for pre theatre limited menu at £18.85 each. Service good. Nice looking restaurant. Why 2 star only? At every stage it was "short". Glass of ordinary Merlot at £7.15? A bit of a pretentious price. Goat cheese starter rich on beetroot, but the goats were AWOL. Nice mackerel page on toast, such a small price of toast, how much did they save in that. Mains fish quite nice, but missed any sparkel. Just adding a bit more of the leek bed would've helped. Erin Mess with spray in foam cream, eh? Our son is a chef in a prestigious London restaurant, so we know a little of the problems. Staff work hard, but hotel policy in this area gets a two star from me. I'm sure they could do better without...

We have stayed many times however this time we had dinner at the hotel. Food was lovely however the lobster extremely small for the price and only comes with a side salad. Husband enjoyed his steak. Drink choice has changed since we last visited which is great as much more choice on cocktails now! Staff are always friendly, attentive and professional and food was served promptly however not rushed. The only down side is that there is no atmosphere. Only another two couples in the restaurant and was very quiet. The harbour hotel is definitely our top place to stay in Chichester however not sure if we would return for...
