Looking to celebrate a sixtieth birthday not too far from Somerset in January, Chichester fills the bill nicely with plenty of scenery, National Trust, sporting facilities etc. all available locally. An internet search brought 4 Canon Lane quickly to our attention with its town-centre location giving us somewhere to go on cold winter nights. Booking directly brought dividends with discounts offered that made it cheaper than external booking sites. Upfront information ensures you are well-briefed as to how to locate, park and enter 4 Canon Lane without the need for a personal meet and greet. Entry was gained by use of a numerical keypad both on the exterior and interior doors, a simple and effective means. Stepping into the warm, bright interior, then upstairs to our room (Room 2) we were pleased with what we found. Immediately, there is the view of the cathedral through the large window which greeted us. The room was large with high ceiling with a separate shower room with a really decent large shower cubicle (lovely not to have shower over bath). Thus, there is no bath. It is a small bathroom with a large shower. All was in good decorative order throughout. A well-stocked tea and coffee table with Border biscuits was in the corner. USB charging plugs there also. A wardrobe was accompanied with a small ironing board, iron and a small convector heater in case the already warm room needed any further supplementary warmth. For the summer, there was also a fan available. The TV provided seemed a bit of a pfaff to obtain further than the few stations provided due to the two controller set-up, but we were not on holiday to watch TV. To that end, Chichester lay less than a stones-throw away. Although you are in the centre of town, Canon Lane is as quiet as it gets but two minutes walking away, the town is very well stocked with eateries. Despite no food on site there is no reason to go hungry if you stay in Chichester. Turning immediately out of the front door will lead you to the Cathedral gardens, walk almost straight out will lead you to the cloisters in the cathedral grounds with the main shopping street just the other side of the cathedral. If we were staying in Chichester again, we would have no hesitation to stay in 4 Canon Lane again. Many thanks for a very...
Read moreI recently stay at 4 Canon Lane the last 5 days of October. This was my second stay, previously having stayed in August 2018.||The house is an easy walk from the train station and located on a quiet street within the complex that is the Chichester Cathedral.||Once again, I stayed in room #8 which is both the solo and accessible room. Comfortable twin bed with a table, chair, and wardrobe. The room had a flatscreen tv and good wi-fi. There was an electric kettle and a single cup coffee maker plus coffee and tea supplies – refreshed each day. There’s a nice big window looking out onto Canon Lane with a beautiful view of the Cathedral. ||There had been a few changes since my first stay. It appears that the room had been refreshed and the bathroom was updated. Loved the rainfall shower. There was no longer a dining room and breakfast was not available. However, the Cloisters Kitchen & Garden café was very close at the Cathedral and recommended to me. There are also several restaurants and cafés on South Street as well. The other change was the contactless system of checking in and out. Prior to arrival I received an email and directions on how to make my payment, and then received an email that included the number key code that would be necessary to get in the front door and into enter my room -- this system was a plus. No longer had to keep track of keys or key cards. Just punch in my unique number and then go on in. While I was out each day the room was made up by housekeeping.||I have no complaints about my stay whatsoever, the location was wonderful and peaceful. If I were to visit Chichester again, I will most certainly make a reservation at 4 Canon...
Read moreHome from the USA and visiting my sister who has a lovely (but tiny) home in central Chichester. I was resigned to paying July rates for a soulless hotel, but came upon 4 Canon and the Treasury Suites - a great find!|The quality of the room (we had Treasury #4) and the location were superb. Sunday morning at 10:15 we walked barely 100 yards to enter the Cathedral, attend a delightful Mattins service, then took breakfast at the newly-renovated (I believe) Cathedral cafe. My wife was in American tourist heaven!|The accommodation itself basically operates like a top notch Airbnb - you should NOT expect typical hotel support staff. The room was large - maybe 30 feet long by 10 wide, divided into a sleeping area with a very comfortable King bed, and a sitting area/kitchen with sofa, TV and basic facilities (fridge, microwave, sink, kettle etc) - all appearing very fresh and new. 3 large windows looking out directly at the adjacent Cathedral.|A slight gripe regarding the bathroom, modern bright and spotless though it was. Two small bottles (body wash & cream) seemed a bit miserly - couldn’t run to just one little shampoo? The bath tub was a nice long soaker and the shower worked well (perhaps too well - that glass half door concept seems prevalent in the UK, stopping only half the water from soaking the bathroom floor).|I’m unsure of current hotel rates in the area, but the £195 a night we paid for a July weekend seemed very reasonable. I would (and will…) strongly...
