The burgers here are lovely, they're not those stodgy, chunky kind but the flipside of that means they're not always as filling. So, I recommend getting at least one side dish too. The Truffle Chick is the most expensive but also the biggest and best that I've tried. I've tried many. Absolutely the best burgers this side of Lothian Road that I've found, so keep Lister Square and Quartermile in mind if you're hungry and starting out from the Meadows or the Royal Mile. Tip: Ask! We've asked about the calories a particular burger has, and got an answer, we've asked for major modifications to a dish, and had it done. Obviously, I can't promise the same results for you but it shows Butta are smart enough to do more than just follow processes. Do, ask. The staff here are great. I've spoken to team members with a background in fine dining. Famously, the head Chef is from a posh hotel and knows the trade well. You'll feel and appreciate the difference. This is so much better than a bored student grudgingly attend your table. Butta is clean and cool. Upstairs is much quieter and my favourite. The view over Lister Square is great for people watching but otherwise you can eat your tasty burger and fries in peace. Downstairs is more energetic, almost wine bar vibe if you go at the right time. I've been here for both lunch and early dinner, it's always been well staffed and we've never waited too long for our meals. Tip: The toilets are clean and spacious. If you need to use that as an excuse to lure friend in from the Meadows and come here for a fuel stop, you can do so safely.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant which might have been a mistake. We live a 20 min drive away from here so by the time we ate our food at the house the chips were soggy and the wings and chicken fingers weren’t very crisp. The bun wasn’t anything special, pretty basic but the chicken on the bun was very tasty. It wasn’t until we got home we realised that they didn’t put in the extra sauce which we ordered. There was a decent selection on the menu but nothing exhaustive. The portion sizes were excellent and the burger itself was very filling. Overall, our meal was nothing particularly special. Probably better than fast food places like Burger King and McDonalds but I wouldn’t know because I don’t eat that junk. We would like to eat there again but next time we will dine in - I am sure everything would taste even better. When we do go back my review score will likely improve. *Edit* Since my first review we have returned to Butta Burger but this time we dined in. The food was significantly better. Everything tasted fresher. The wings were crispier and our chicken burgers were delicious. We couldn’t believe how big the chicken was inside the bun (perhaps a little too big as it was a little messy to eat). We ordered shakes which were pretty nice, although my wife found hers was a bit too strong on the strawberry flavour. Chips were average. The sauces were tasty. Service was on point and she was very friendly. It was a little pricey but everything is expensive these days.

TLDR: it’s not worth it! Reuben Burger: Costing 14 pounds and labelled as their best, the Reuben falls off the a cliff of expectations steeper than Arthur’s Seat. Overpowered by a lacklustre sauce, the other ingredients in the burger succumb to a terrible fate. Tiny dried out beef patties, cheap wholesale pickles and cheese, and the pastrami! I don’t know what it was doing there? Clearly, using the catch all phrase of ‘wagyu beef’ for its patties was the supposed gimmick intended to frame ‘premiumness’ that was just sorely lacking at every bite. Sorry, but this burger could come from a Macdonalds on a good day. Truffle Fries: A large plate of truffle fries, pretty decent although not much truffle tasting was to be had. Twas likely that the truffle oil bottle they spray the fries with had a faulty spout, or the cook was simply being stingy. Nevertheless, like most reviews, I found the fries to be perfectly cooked, clearly the one food item they nailed at this establishment. Hopefully they can work with the same caliber on their miserable burgers.. Service: Excellent! Servers were thoughtful and quick. Even cut the terrible Reuben burger in half for sharing. Although clearly the seating arrangements could be better, as large groups of customers arrived and some had to rearrange the seatings for their own selves.
