This cafe is suitable to come to work on laptops, mid afternoon anyway, as I saw 3 separate people doing so. There were all ages of adults. However, I've not ever saw kids in here. That's not to say this place doesn't accommodate children, I've just never saw any.
There is a good selection of tea, any coffee I could think of they steamed to sell. They sell cakes/ tray bakes, I didn't eat any just saw them on display. Also cold drinks are on offer here, fresh apple juice for example. Also cold coffee too.
I think the pricing is not anything I'd comment on being either expensive or inexpensive. It was priced as much as you'd expect any cafe in Edinburgh to be. I think the free wi-fi is an arraction for students near by. It's pretty peaceful which I think is why it's a chosen spot for studying?
There was a sense of ambience, music playing which wasn't too loud to hear yourself think or converse comfortably with your company. As much as the cafe is suitable for working on laptops, it's a cafe equally as good to come with a friend and catch up. That's the only reason I've ever attended here.
I can't say for certain what food (cakes being the exception) if any is sold here? I've not ever ordered anything but a coffee, I order the same everytime. Not everyone I go with order the same everytime. I know their teas are popular.
There is a toilet facility, although I can not comment on cleanliness or hygiene as I've not ever visited it. Overall the place was pretty clean, the theme is a rustic, quirky kind of feel. Worn suitcases used as a table so it goes with the theme of the place a little.
There are numerous types of seating and tables. Different heights and styles of seats and tables/ objects used as tables of different heights and sizes. I think everyone would find a comfortable seat regardless if your preferences.
I'd recommend it for coffee and somewhere that's not too far from town but seems much further as its fairly quiet. It's maybe 10 mins walk from Harrison park. A complete guess I'd say 20 mins walk from meadows.
Im not sure if people would say this cafe is in polmont or merchiston but it's at the roundabout where there's other shops.
Go have a look see...
Read moreQuite disappointing... I just moved to the area and was looking for a comfortable place to make it "my cafe"... arrived at 11:20, breakfast stops at 12:00, so asked for the menu and the waitress with not even a smile just missed to throw it to my face... already felt a bit off, but the place was cute so I decided to take a seat and enjoy a little breakfast and my book. When the waitress came to take the order she was so rude an "dry" I even felt bad for ordering... anyway Ordered a coffee and Fried eggs (?) Florentine. When the plate arrived again not a smile and I started eating the bread was so hard I barely could cut it, nevertheless eat it...tried to look for the waitress for help but none of them was to be found... no one came to check how it was... just so disappointing!! when I finished, I went to the bar to pay, both waitress were seating in a table, it must be so tiring helping the 3 tables that were seating at the moment...I told her the breakfast wasn't great , the bread was very hard and I pointed at it, all still in my plate...and again not a smile she just said "I am sorry, its £8.60" and extended the card machine...I paid and left to never...
Read moreI am shocked at what happened at the cafe yesterday. I live locally and have been a customer of Cafe Florentin for years. It usually has decent food and coffee, sometimes slow service but I can see that staff are busy so have never complained.
Recently I've been attending the cafe sometimes as part of a group of mothers and babies. The group has been meeting every week for a few years in a regular slot - we have always felt welcomed by the previous manager.
The new manager has decided that we are no longer welcome with little notice, and not only that he raised his voice at one of the group so that everyone could hear - I was sat on the other side of the cafe. He was very aggressive.
Our group had done nothing wrong. The manager does not want mothers and babies or anyone that takes up more than average space (like the disabled too - he also complained about a mobility aid) in Cafe Florentin. Or perhaps dogs are still welcome and it's just babies and women that are his problem? I'm not sure.
I will not be back in Cafe Florentin. If you have children or think that discrimination against those with children or disabilities is wrong please take your...
