Café Modern One — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

I love coming here after a walk along the Water of Leith. Quite often there is a larger queue to order food and drinks but this time there wasn’t (Easter Sunday morning).

I have been here so many times I can’t count. I usually sit outside as it’s a perfect sun trap and isn’t very windy. However, there are lots of nice tables inside.

I always get the cheese scone as it’s so delicious. It is now £4.50 so not the cheapest but it is a good scone.

I can’t comment on the coffee as I don’t drink hot drinks but they look nice. Also the salads and mains they serve also look delicious but tend to be on the pricier side.

My kid and I often visit this cafe for Sunday lunch. The food is delicious, and they offer a great deal with a kids' meal alongside the parent's meal. Yesterday, we arrived a bit early, and the kids' box wasn't ready yet. We ordered meal sets and cakes for the adults first. After about 30 minutes, the kids' box was ready, and we joined the queue again. However, a bit disappointed that adding the kids' box later was charged at the full price. Every time I come here I hope something will have been done about the terrible acoustics… it’s impossible to chat and hear someone sitting really close to you. Wall hangings , cushions, soft sculpture … there must be something in the stores! Also this time I had stale coconut cake and although the flavoured water is a nice touch , to charge £2 for an infant sized amount is just plain stingy.
