Cast Iron Grill — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Some of the reviews were off putting but as frequent travellers we have learned to look at the aggregate rather than putting too much emphasis on individual reviews. We were not disappointed. We decided to sit in the bar, order from the bar menu and watch the tennis. Bar person Joyal has a very pleasant and welcoming personality which was a good start. We ordered chicken nachos to share and I can honestly say that they were the best in memory, mainly because of the juicy freshly cooked roast chicken, but also the fried pastry which were far more tasty than stock cardboard. There was a generous portion of fresh avocado and the cheese was just right to not dominate the flavours. My partner had a flavoured G&T with a generously sized bottle of tonic. I had a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc which was a bit pricey at £13.50 but was very good. Alcaraz won his match which topped off the evening. I sent well deserved appreciation to the chef. The only nit which took away one star was the inadequate paper napkins which were useless. Well done Joyal and the team....

Small portions and high prices.

Food standard is fair, no real complaints but it certainly does not reflect the mammoth bill you'll get at the end. Service standard I'd call 'functional'. The place was pretty quiet and we were sat away from the main restaurant at a big cold window on a cold night, then the family who came in after us were sat next to the fire exit at a far away corner of the restaurant. After paying we were followed out and asked if we had paid..... Definitely some hospitality training required.

The half roast chicken was bloody. I was advised that they will make a new one for me. They did not even offer a complimentary appetizer or bread especially that I informed the server I was famished. They also did not cook me a new one as advised. They just cooked further the original one. And, they had the gall to charge me the service charge which I questioned.
