The wife and I had a rare night without the kids and headed out bruntsfeild way to find some chill vibes and hopefully some late night foodz. Montes looked a bit too crowded so we stumbled upon the decanter.
We were greated by the waitress/manager, Maria. Immediately we felt the warmth and character of the place. Like a kinda 1920s Chicago speak easy or something like that.
I'm no wine connoisseur so i left drinks to Maria and my partner. I had a tall glass of pinot noir - not too dry nor so sweet - and shared a second with the Mrs.
I nibbled at my wife's venison and veggies. Any kitchen worth its salt wouldn't mistreat such a meat, nor did the decanter. Delicate, tender and delicious. Side veggies were, and are, of course, side veggies so no need flaunt the perfect crunch on the potatoe skins.
At the end of the night, i found myself having a most insightful chat with Maria about her family's restaurant and the changes within the hospitality industry.
I would and will return. And, would recommend the Decanter to anyone looking for a cosy and intimate...
Read moreDecanter Winery and Dinery is truly an extraordinary establishment! I recently traveled to Edinburgh to celebrate my 60th birthday, and after careful consideration, I chose Decanter for a few key reasons: One of my companions is vegan. The impressive menu variety. The glowing reviews. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! From start to finish, everything was absolutely perfect. Our server (whose name I regret not remembering—she was exceptional!) provided outstanding service. The food was phenomenal, the wine and whiskey recommendations were spot-on, and a special bottle of champagne, gifted by a dear friend who couldn’t join us, added an unforgettable touch to the celebration. The warm, inviting atmosphere tied it all together beautifully. Words can hardly capture how brilliant the experience was. I’m already planning a return to Edinburgh in the summer of 2025, and Decanter is at the top of my must-visit list. Thank you to the entire team at Decanter Winery and Dinery for making my 60th birthday so...
Read moreThis was the best restaurant experience I had in Edinburgh!! We were wandering around the area late at night, quite starving, looking for a nice place which would still serve food and offer some nice wine. The owner approached us in a way which was welcoming but not in any way inappropriate, and appologised profusely for the fact his kitchen was already closed. He then went out of this way BIG TIME to literally grab every single bit of antipasti, cheese and bread he could find in his kitchen, offered us some excellent wine and we had a better evening than we ever expected having. The entire staff is extremely pleasant, the service is fantastic, the owner is very knowledgeable on wine but also impressively kind and made a huge effort to make us feel good. This is going to become my go-to address in Edinburgh!!...
