Kismot is probably my favourite Indian restaurant in old town Edinburgh. They have a good selection of curries categorized by taste on their menu so it's easy to narrow down your choices - which can be challanging sometimes in other Indian restaurants. They don't offer a great number of starters, but that's not a problem because they have delicious side dishes which can replace the starters.
As for the food quality you can tell that all food is made from fresh ingredients. And the fact that all food is homemade just makes your dining experience perfect. It's like eating in your grandma's dining room.
And the waiters are the best. There are usually a girl and a boy waiter, I know that the boy is one of the owner's sons, and these two are just a delight to have around. They are helpful and friendly, always with a big smile and kind words to make you feel welcome.
I simply love Kismot and it's lucky we live in the neighbourhood so we can visit quite often.
Oh and did I mention it's byob? You can bring your favourite wine for free to compliment the...
Read moreSo disappointed tonight as all previous visits have been impeccable. Food tonight was excellent as always but the service was shocking. We booked in for 5pm as we have done in the past and are usually there for a, couple of hours but if we had been notified when booking what time we had the table until then that is absolutely fine. I have never felt so rushed to eat a meal and leave in my life. They served the mains whilst we were still eating starters. We pointed out that we felt rushed but we were told the mains would be cold if we didn't have take them right away. They then said we weren't being rushed but as soon as we had finished our mains we were asked If we wanted the bill then were asked to leave as they wanted to reset the table. Waiter was very rude. Owners daughter did well to smooth things over and ensured us her dad (owner/chef) would not have known but he had actually came out to say he has rushed the mains in case we were in a hurry despite us saying when we arrived we were not. Such a shame as used to love it here. Hoping this...
Read moreMyself, my husband and our family (8 of us) went to Kismot to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately four of us ended up with food poisoning. We were really very ill. When I phoned the restaurant and tried to explain what happened, the gentleman I spoke with kept interrupting me and kept telling me how many guests they had and how busy they were. They paid no attention to what I was saying and weren't concerned in the slightest that their food made us ill. I eventually managed to get down to the restaurant. The older man shook my hand and shoved money in my hand and told me to go, and run away back to the kitchen. I then confronted the other man and asked if they were going to investigate, and he then started showing me his book and telling me how busy they are. What that has got to do with our food poisoning, I don't know. To summarize, the staff didn't put us first, ignored our concerns, declined to investigate how we got food poisoning. We reported it to...
