This would have been 5 stars but ...

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch today in the restaurant upstairs. The waiting staff were excellent: attentive and very pleasant. The food and wine was very good. We tipped accordingly.

However ...

I had arrived a little early and went into the downstairs bar to have a drink while I waited for my wife. I ordered a pint of Paolozzi. When I was served, the pint was a little short of the full measure, so I asked the server to top it up. He refused and tried to argue with me. I told him that in 50 years of drinking in Scottish pubs, I had never been refused when I asked bar staff to top up a short measure. He then reluctantly and with bad grace topped it up.

When my wife arrived, I spoke to the server again. He had been chatting behind the bar to a woman who I assume was a member of staff, off shift. I told him that arguing with a customer was never a good idea and that a full measure was to the brim of the glass. He began to argue with me again, saying that he would not decrease his bar profits by doing so.

For the sake of a few mls of beer and a pleasant response to a very reasonable request, you've lost a bar customer although I will happily use the restaurant...

Stunning food and I don't say that lightly, I have been in the trade at a decent level and it was our anniversary so we expected a lot ...and got it... my wife's scallops were perfectly cooked and seasons her seabass was exceptional..and then there's the lamb...which has to have been some of the nicest lamb I have ever had and as I am 61 and been in the trade for 25 years that's saying something... the only little moan would be the pureed potatoes, I don't like that consistency but that's my own taste...the lamb was cooked to perfection as were the Asparagus tips... the Bulgarian gentleman in charge came over a few times fir a chat, which I like, always at appropriate times too so service was good . The wine we ordered was not what was delivered but they offered to change immediately but the wine was great so happy days excellent place and decent atmosphere too for midweek..but the food is divine..so we'll done to them and best if luck...

I have just come back from la p'tite folie, and couldn't find a single fault. We had a 3 course meal and wine for £100 for 2. For some this might seem a lot, but the food is exquisite. I had a cheese and caramelised onion tartlette to start, followed by the Aberdeen angus beef fillet and the chocolate nemesis to finish. Accompanied by a perfectly chilled bottle of Beaujolais. The tartlette was a perfect mix of sweetness from the onions and savoury with a tang from the cheese on a deliciously light filo pastry, the beef was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection, so juicy with the most rich sauce and a delightful stack of cheese rich gratin, and the chocolate dessert was light and sumptuous with just the right amount of ooze. As a regular traveller to France, I would have to say this meal was as delightful as any I have had during my visits to Paris. Highly...

Managed to walk in yesterday and get a table which was great as the restaurant upstairs was getting busy. We ate from the 2 course set lunch menu at £19.50 each and had a starter of Bruschetta, followed by one main of Lamb stew with veg, mash and greens and a Roast chicken breast with mushrooms, potatoes and greens. Dessert followed with one Lemon sorbet and one Panna Cotta. ( one dessert was extra to fixed cost). All this washed down with a bottle of red. Food was great , served by friendly efficient staff , we will definitely be making this one of our regular places to go in Edinburgh, thanks.

We had the best steak at La P'tite folie Restaurant this evening, and it was an unforgettable experience! The steak was perfectly cooked—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Paired with a crisp white wine, it was the ideal combination. The wine complemented the richness of the steak beautifully, and every bite was pure satisfaction. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. If you're a steak lover, this place is a must-visit. Mike the manager was very good and professional, keep it up!. Can't wait to return!

Overall great lunch food in an attractively designed and set dining room. Service is good but unexceptional. Lunch starters are just okay, but still worth the two course price. The poached coley I had was excellent. Beautifully cooked, great sauce, great mash. Could have used more vegetables, but that's just me. Curious about the poached egg being cooked a little over medium. Perhaps it was meant to be that way, but for me it's an error, and should be softer. Creme brulee was fantastic, could hva emaybe used more sugar and darker. Other than a few small gripes, great meal.
