This would have been 5 stars but ...
My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch today in the restaurant upstairs. The waiting staff were excellent: attentive and very pleasant. The food and wine was very good. We tipped accordingly.
However ...
I had arrived a little early and went into the downstairs bar to have a drink while I waited for my wife. I ordered a pint of Paolozzi. When I was served, the pint was a little short of the full measure, so I asked the server to top it up. He refused and tried to argue with me. I told him that in 50 years of drinking in Scottish pubs, I had never been refused when I asked bar staff to top up a short measure. He then reluctantly and with bad grace topped it up.
When my wife arrived, I spoke to the server again. He had been chatting behind the bar to a woman who I assume was a member of staff, off shift. I told him that arguing with a customer was never a good idea and that a full measure was to the brim of the glass. He began to argue with me again, saying that he would not decrease his bar profits by doing so.
For the sake of a few mls of beer and a pleasant response to a very reasonable request, you've lost a bar customer although I will happily use the restaurant...
Read moreStunning food and I don't say that lightly, I have been in the trade at a decent level and it was our anniversary so we expected a lot ...and got it... my wife's scallops were perfectly cooked and seasons her seabass was exceptional..and then there's the lamb...which has to have been some of the nicest lamb I have ever had and as I am 61 and been in the trade for 25 years that's saying something... the only little moan would be the pureed potatoes, I don't like that consistency but that's my own taste...the lamb was cooked to perfection as were the Asparagus tips... the Bulgarian gentleman in charge came over a few times fir a chat, which I like, always at appropriate times too so service was good . The wine we ordered was not what was delivered but they offered to change immediately but the wine was great so happy days excellent place and decent atmosphere too for midweek..but the food is divine..so we'll done to them and best if luck...
Read moreI have just come back from la p'tite folie, and couldn't find a single fault. We had a 3 course meal and wine for £100 for 2. For some this might seem a lot, but the food is exquisite. I had a cheese and caramelised onion tartlette to start, followed by the Aberdeen angus beef fillet and the chocolate nemesis to finish. Accompanied by a perfectly chilled bottle of Beaujolais. The tartlette was a perfect mix of sweetness from the onions and savoury with a tang from the cheese on a deliciously light filo pastry, the beef was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection, so juicy with the most rich sauce and a delightful stack of cheese rich gratin, and the chocolate dessert was light and sumptuous with just the right amount of ooze. As a regular traveller to France, I would have to say this meal was as delightful as any I have had during my visits to Paris. Highly...
